"Rock is finally dead" says Gene Simmons and its all because of filesharing
Human headline generator Gene Simmons sat down with his son Nick Simmons to talk about the music industry’s issues for Esquire — and as you’ve probably learned to expect, when it comes to Gene Simmons interviews, there’s going to be a whole lot of pull quotes.
The main takeaway from Simmons’ conversation with his son is that the KISS frontman thinks that rock is dead — “finally,” he says. To be fair, this is probably Simmons’ least controversial remark within the past few months — after saying he has no sympathy for depressed people and drug addicts, telling immigrants they should “learn goddamn English,” and defending Donald Sterling and the 1 percent — and Simmons has a point: rock music doesn’t have the charting power it once did. Just ask Kanye West and he’ll tell you that rap is the new rock ‘n’ roll.
But in Simmons’ mind, rock is dead because of file-sharing — not just because, in some ways, it’s been replaced by hip-hop. “There is no industry for that anymore. And who is the culprit? There’s always the changing tide of interests — music taste changes with each generation. To blame that is silly,” Simmons said. “But there’s something else. The death of rock was not a natural death. Rock did not die of old age. It was murdered. And the real culprit is that kid’s 15-year-old next-door neighbor, probably a friend of his. Maybe even one of the bandmates he’s jamming with.
Piracy is not what kills a genre.
a genre continuously producing terrible music is what kills a genre.
music doesn't die, everyone shut up
"In news today, another old man declares something dead because the internet and technology is evil! "
Rest in peace

Whatever, old man.
Piss off. If it was truly dead then we'd all be listening to your shit sell-out pop garbage.
I read that as "Rocky is finally dead" and thought for a minute there that Sylvester Stallone died.

This is just Gene Simmons coming to grips with the fact that no one cares about him anymore
What a jabrony!
Gene Simmons should know as he was one of the original juggalos.
But really, he says some quite foolish stuff.
The quality of music is not measured in it's sales but in how it lives on and influences the lives of those who listen to it.
I don't really know the dude, but he sounds like an edgy teenager

There's nothing wrong with being stuck in the 80's, the problem with Gene is that he just talks a load of bullshit all the time.

The moment when last person on earth stops listening rock, then it is dead.
I can't hear him over all the rock I am listening too.
I've been listening to rock since i woke up so he can shut up

If the classic rock of the 70s and 80s is what inspired what people call "rock" today then it is definitely dead.
Gene is an idiot anyway. He is just angry he is not selling as many records as he did 40 years ago.
