The price tag includes the construction of a bridge over Kerch Strait to connect Crimea and mainland Russia, Slyunyayev said, RIA Novosti reported Monday. The cost of the 4.5-kilometer bridge to the peninsula, which has no connection to Russia by land, was earlier estimated by the government at up to $3 billion, but now sits at $4.3 billion. Earlier media reports cited Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov as saying that Moscow was considering earmarking as much as 825 billion rubles ($24.2 billion) for Crimea. Crimea, an autonomous republic within Ukraine, was annexed by Russia in March despite protests from Kiev and Western governments. The peninsula's budget deficit was estimated by Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov in March at $1.5 billion. But Kremlin aide Andrei Belousov said earlier that the deficit can be eliminated by 2016 or 2017. The deficit was due to Kiev's decision to force most major Crimean taxpayers to pay their taxes in Ukraine's capital, Belousov said. However, regional development analysts have pointed out that the peninsula has other economic problems as well.
http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/ministry-sets-crimea-spending-at-18-billion/502765.html
Hope it's 18bn in insurance.
"we spent 18B rubles and look at the glorious road we have produced to connect to the motherland!" "thats great, but you still need to build the road from the parkinglot to the bridge, then the bridge to the mainland"
I work in IT department at government structure. The first order we've got from our goverment when they accepted Crimea into Russia was "Open new office in Crimea like... right now. No, you won't get money to buy required stuff. Get all of the available hardware, computers, etc which you planned to use in Moscow and send them to Crimea. Did we mention you won't get any additional money? This means you also won't get any bonus payments this year because we don't have any additional money anymore". So yea, I would like to see how much of that money will go to the Crimea...
Seems to me Russia wants Crimea just as a show of power
Gotta build a courthouse before you can build any new improvements. Courthouse will take ??? Days.
While I think it was a waste in the first place, Russia really needs Crimea. The corruption is going to strike though.
