Sure, technically Apple’s first Android app was the now discontinued Beats Music which it picked up through acquisition last year and it’s developing Apple Music for Google’s platform, but it’s very fitting that Apple’s first in-house app is called Switch to iOS from Android. Apple first announced the new Android app this year alongside iOS 9 at its developer conference, and today with iOS 9’s official launch the Move to iOS app is officially available on the Google Play Store. Here’s how it works:
When moving from an Android device to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9, the setup process now prompts new users to move data from Android if switching platforms.
microsoft has something like this, and why do I get the feeling that apple would ban something like this on their own store

migrating from iOS to android is pretty easy these days considering iCloud
don't read the app's reviews on the play store
I'm turning into a sheep? I downloaded this app, all of the sudden I felt horns coming out of my head, I felt fur growing out of my body and I am bahing uncontrollably.I also have an unnecessary urge to eat grass. Bahahhhah bahahahah
Hu Hu Hue Don't download this app! Seconds after install I looked down and notice I'm wearing converse high tops, no socks, skinny jeans that cut off just above the ankle, knitted jumper, a set of 3d glasses with no lenses and to top it all off? My hair looks like a packet of bachelors super noodles! I also have the strange urge to not conform to wider society, embrace the vegan lifestyle and call everyone a bigot who doesn't agree with my opinions! Enough is enough! I don't want to be an iClown! Uninstalled.
The reviews are pure gold :v:

"Material this material that" holy fuck why is there such a fanbase for this
Even in gmod there's a guy selling DarkRP menus redone in Material style and I really just don't see what's so good about it, for me it's mildly annoying actually

I get the hate for iOS and most of that, but what's wrong with Converse? They're comfortable.

On android, it's supposed to create a unified look across the entire OS, so that users can intuitively know behaviours in all apps because they all follow the same strict(er) rules for how to get things done. Of course, many apps pick and choose what pieces to use, but a lot of android apps do follow its ideas and it's really good.
On things outside android, it's just an easy way to create something which looks good and simple, which works as you would expect (hopefully).

I think I'm the only one who hates material design. It's ugly as hell.

It might be ugly, but it gets the job done.
I still like it better than whatever iOS uses. But Metro is still the best phone UI in my opinion.

God no the windows phone UI is an abomination

You are not alone. I don't think it looks overtly ugly but there are a number of aspects in it that look dumb.

Nothing wrong with converse on their own but when combined with the cut skinny jeans and thick frames they are part of the Unholy Trinity
God no the windows phone UI is an abomination
Huh? As a user of all three platforms I actually liked the Windows Metro interface a lot.
Man I don't like the mobile market beef. It feels so superficial and unimportant. OG Microsoft/apple beef is where its at but it's basically nonexistent anymore. I miss the good old days
Apple have released an app
This is news apparently

Its connor, he's got a hardon for material
Searching for the app on my Nexus 5 brings no results for this app for some reason.

it's the holofication nation guy lol
Well now google only has to make their own, have it banned then apple looks like the bad guy.
Though with the current iPhone restrictions I'm not sure how easy that would be.

Well shit people just took pictures of my style for blogs and whatever and I was wearing high top white (ok not really white anymore) converse, skinny jeans rolled up just enough to show a sliver of my socks between the converse and the socks, and I wear large, thick framed glasses.

And they look good, too.
As an iPhone user (and I will be until I find another platform that looks as good in hardware, because I am a superficial consumer whore), I actually really like Material Design. I think it combines the best parts of late-90s graphic design (the big flashy 3D stuff. You remember it.) with the best parts of 1950s/2010s design, in that it's flat, which is iconic, but it has depth, which is realistic.
It's really a design language that emphasizes that what you're interacting with is real in some tangible way, and it captures that sense of magic in design that nothing else really does. Which is probably why Google isn't the first company to use it, it's been a staple of graphic design for quite a few years now. Seeing it come to life in an interactive platform is something else, though.
I'm a design nerd. Can you tell?

Yeah he posts in the android thread all the time lol
The single reason I use android, all other points of concern for what I do with mobile devices Apple beats out Google on, is that I can download music to my device from any website, usually Bandcamp, and then move it to a neat, organized, folder without needing a computer to do it. At this point I could not see myself not being able to survive without that feature but for all other mobile needs of mine, I wish I had an iPhone.

Well, if only Google themselves would follow it...

Oh yeah. For any design theory to work in practice, it has to be universally adopted.

It is actually interesting, that Google apps on iOS are more Material than on Android.
