After a three night marathon on the quiz show Jeopardy, Watson emerged victorious to win a $1million (£622,000) prize. The computer's competitors were two of the most successful players ever to have taken part in Jeopardy. But in the end their skill at the game was no match for Watson. Ken Jennings had previously notched up 74 consecutive wins on the show - the most ever - while Brad Rutter had won the most amount of money, $3million (£1.9m). "I for one welcome our new computer overlords," Mr Jennings wrote along with his correct final Jeopardy question. Ken Jennings just got more respect in my book for his final Jeopardy answer.
What the hell is Watson.
It is a computer.
I as well, welcome our new computer overlords. :v: That motherfucker must be a Facepuncher.
Watson: What is Toronto??????? Alex Trebec: Ooh, that's incorrect! Also with many question marks, indicating he is unsure. And how much did you wager? Watson: $947 Trebec: You clever sneak.
I as well, welcome our new computer overlords. :v: That motherfucker must be a Facepuncher.
Eh, wouldn't be one of the most successful Jeopardy players if he wasn't familiar with The Simpsons
I loved all of the possible answer choices under the correct answers. They were sometimes totally random

It's clearly 'fae', a Fuel Air Explosive.
Well of course a computer will have an advantage when it's programmed chock full of trivia

Those lights on it make it look like a green/blue version of HAL. IBM has a great sense of humor for being descended from Nazi Germany. Wait. Oh god. Oh god no.
Why is it called Watson?
Well of course a computer will have an advantage when it's programmed chock full of trivia
It's not just a gigantic database, it has the ability to comprehend questions.
for those who don't understand the significance of this and before someone goes "lmao it's a computer of course it knows trivia" the main test of this thing is the capacity to analyze and comprehend human language computers are fucking fantastic with mathematics because it's simple; however linguistics are so hugely complex that computers fail most tasks when interfacing with it unless the questions have prescripted rules this is an amazing accomplishment for artificial intelligence
I can't wait till Google has something like this in it's search engine.

Yeah, I watched all the episodes. It was pretty entertaining when Ken started to get into a groove and then Watson was like "What is: Ken Jennings is a bitch" and that was the correct answer.

I'm pretty impressed. I feel bad for the programmers because there are so many conditionals.
