As I have been hearing, the Sapphire HD 6950 dirt 3 edition apparently has a HD 6970 bios on its second bios, as it happens I own 2 of these cards. So will moving to the second bios unlock it or is there anything else I have to do. And also how would I know its been unlocked other than looking at performance differences.

thanks it looks like a great help. May have gotten a free upgrade to crossfire 6970's.
Completely ignore that thread until you try the switches. Most of the Dirt 3 6950 2GB's from Sapphire already ship with a 6970 bios on the second bios, flashing is unnecessary. Turn off your PC, then flip the switches near the crossfire connectors and use GPU-Z to see if they have 1536 shaders when you reboot. If they are unlocked after boot use Sapphire Trixx to set the clocks to 6970 clocks and change the voltage. If they are not then follow the instructions in the thread linked.
right switched the bios- one has unlocked to 1536 shaders while the other stayed at 1408, how should i go about putting the bios on the first card.
Well you'll have to try the method in the link provided by RaDiVaX.
