Im getting a guitar very soon, and i have limited cash. but ive narrowed it down to three guitars but i dont know which ones the best. if someone that knows guitars well can help, this is my first electric guitar. Ibanez GRX20Z: Dean vendetta xm: and them the Fender starcaster: so, any advice on these guitars would be great, i just want the right one for a good price
Ibanez, but why the Mikro? It's a 3/4 scale guitar. DO NOT GET A DEAN. Just DON'T. I know Dave Mustaine plays one, but I don't know why or how. Shit I've played his signature models and they play like shit for their price, to be honest. And I LIKE Mustaine. Fender's Starcaster is a sub-Bullet Squire, essentially, which means it's pretty bad, so I'd steer clear. Ibanez is a GREAT entry-level guitar, considering it'll still play pretty well a year or two down the line when compared to better guitars.
what's your budget?

So dean is relay that bad?
So dean is relay that bad?
Dean is the B.C. Rich of good looking guitars. They look like they should play awesome, but they just...don't... Nothing about them feels right for what you expect with a name as big as Dean, but when you play one, you know you've played the Black Plague of guitars.
Get a fixed bridge Ibanez for the love of god. You do not want to deal with floating bridges in that price range. My advice would be to look around for a used RG321, try not to get an Indonesian made Ibanez (Ibanez GIOs are made in China or Indonesia), older Korean models are of better build quality, and if you can find a Japanese made one (I've seen used RG7420s go for $275) then you will have an instrument that will satisfy you for a long time.
Hmm, thanks for the heads up i was actually eying a dean guitar myself.
USA made Deans are well made guitars, just avoid ones made elsewhere.
Hm...there any easy way to tell them apart, or would I have to look for a Made in USA sticker? I'd hope the U.S. Mustaine models are much better than the ones I played, because I was VERY disappointed for a guitar with a legend's name on it.
I'm with TheGuru. Save up a bit more and get an RG321 or try and get one used. I had one for a bit. I really liked it.

RG321s are sexy as hell in almost every way
The most obvious way to tell would be the price tag :v:
Touche...what should I expect a U.S. Dean to go for, roughly? 1-2K, 2K+, what? I honestly WANT to like Deans, but after my experiences with them I'm afraid I can't. But I'm willing to try 'em again.
I'm probably going to go for that RG321, just need to save up a bit more thanks for the help guys
you are a good person
why thank you, kind sir also, are there any other good guitars for the same price i'm still aiming for this rg321 tho, it looks sexy as hell i just want more options

It's not even carried in stock at a store near me (at least no Dean's that expensive. PRS's, though, and a couple Gibson customs that I have no interest in). If I can find one I'll gladly go try it but damn is that way out of my price range. I can only imagine Mustaine plays U.S. made.
why thank you, kind sir also, are there any other good guitars for the same price i'm still aiming for this rg321 tho, it looks sexy as hell i just want more options
Look around jemsite.com in the classifieds secion (may as well look at sevenstring.org too, most of their ads are for seven string guitars but sometimes you'll find a cheap RG350, I bought my RG7620 from a guy there). At this price range the only way you'll get a half decent guitar is used, older Ibanezs are pretty consistent and obviously something you're interested in.
well, all i could do now is save now goddamn i need a job i'd love to get an ibanez
Definitely check out used Ibanezes. For not much more, you can find some really good deals. Also, the newer Ibanez guitars are supposedly inferior in quality to old Korean Ibanez. I got my RG2EX2 local, with gig bag and a practice amp, for $215. It plays very nicely. The stock pickups aren't much to brag about, but I was only using the guitar for teaching, so I didn't care. Stay away from the RG220, though. Other advice: as has already been stated, avoid Dean, and maybe even entry level Fender/Squier and Epiphone. ESP/LTD have good cheap models, and Schecter's entry models are decent. Learn the difference between fixed bridge and floating bridge. At your price range, there are almost no decent floating bridges. $200 isn't much for a guitar budget, but you can make it work out well if you do the proper research. I highly advocate the used market. Check out Rondo, too. Reputedly best price versus quality at that level, so long as you avoid the Douglas V's. Well done for basically recapping all the so far given advice and recommending guitars out of his price range :downs:
Well done for basically recapping all the so far given advice and recommending guitars out of his price range :downs:
I saw no mention of LTD or Schecter, gave my own input on a used fixed bridge Ibanez other than the RG321, and gave a link to a website containing many guitars well below $200. I think my post was far from redundant or useless.
If you're willing to save up a bit more, I recommend Schecter's entry level guitar. I've got one, and they stack up very well against other guitars at and slightly above the price range. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Guitar-Research-Omen-6-Electric-Guitar?sku=518181 I'm sure used ones are available all over the place for $200 ish.

I actually wonder whether the OP has played an Ibanez because Schecter and Ibanez are basically polar opposites in terms of how they play. Fair enough though considering we don't know the OPs experience.

I thought I'd mention some brands the OP might not know about. No problem in that. SX has a strong following, and even Douglas has some reputation. The V's are just reputed to be of poor quality, in contrast to, say, the WRL models. The hardware's cheap, but that's the case on every ≤$200 guitar. One thing they have over other entry-level instruments: wood selection and finishes. And AL2000's are very nice for their money.
