So, opinions? Do you think this will affect the donations and what not now for charity? Kinda sucks that they are checking, but something like this was bound to happen because of bundles like the THQ one (i think) tieing 3 games to 1 key etc.. Well, no more raffles I guess.
Couldn't you bypass this? create a new steam account??? Just curious.
snip
Well that's inconvienent.
Couldn't you bypass this? create a new steam account??? Just curious.
Its possible, but I haven't redeemed a key on steam in ages.. but I don't think you can gift games if you redeem it? Unless people start giving steam accounts away with the games.. haha
Why? I was always buying bundles for my friends and send them codes as surprise, using one purchased bundle to send games to many people. Now it has gone full retard
Does this apply to past keys or can you still redeem them as normal? I gave about 20 keys to someone last week and they still haven't redeemed, will be really sad if I find they are tied to my account and I can't use them.

Well thats disappointing. Any announcement possibly explaining why?
Well thats disappointing. Any announcement possibly explaining why?
I'd guess it's so you can't buy a bundle of 6 games for a dollar and then spread that out among yourself and five others.
all this is gonna do is stop gift sales. wtf?
This is half the reason I bought humble bundles.
the Generosity thread took a big hit then
tbh if you're buying like 20 bundles to gift to people for next to nothing (like 10 cents a bundle) you're just being an ass.
tbh if you're buying like 20 bundles to gift to people for next to nothing (like 10 cents a bundle) you're just being an ass.
You didn't get steam keys for under a dollar.
You didn't get steam keys for under a dollar.
shows how much i know then.
Pretty sure that they've been discouraging donating/selling individual keys for years now. I'm surprised that they let us do it this long. Keep in mind that it may not even be the Humble Bundle dudes who came to this decision. The Steam holiday 2011 event was hurt by people buying humble bundle keys for $0.01 each and creating new Steam accounts with them for more coal/gifts.
This really sucks since now people can't get rid of games they already have. One of many reasons.
I can see why they do this. There was quite a big black market for Humble Bundle keys. Plus, since the beginning it was actually against Humble Bundle's TOS to give keys to others, they just never really enforced it. And now they do. It was fun while it lasted. Steam keys from previous bundles aren't affected btw.
I have no problem with that. If I'd give away the Steam keys of my bundle I would still have the DRM free version effectively duplicating the game (so, more or less, pirating it).
You can still gift bundles. But it's a shitty move nonetheless.
Actually, I just noticed I have a lot of unredeemed Steam keys. Can I switch these over to the new system? Because I'm too lazy to put all the keys into Steam myself.
They've always said they aren't for giving out and you should only use them for yourself, but this does seem a bit pointless. Fewer people will buy the bundles, and games will just be completely wasted if someone already has them - instead of being able to give it to someone else, that game will just sit unused forever.
To get the steam keys you have to pay at least $1.
still $1 per bundle is pretty low
Boooo, I hope this doesnt affect older keys. I set up a raffle with 23 games on FP a few months back and I was hoping to do another again some time soon.
It'd be awesome if they could implement something where if you pay a certain amount you get keys but if you pay under then you have to use this 'drm' type technique..
