Are there any better video recording software than FRAPS?

I'm using a registered version of FRAPS but the video and gameplay overall is laggy as shit.
Is there anyway to optimize it/better program to use?
You could try WeGame, gotta register an account but its better then FRAPS in terms of performance.
Depends on the purpose.
I use Camtasia Studio if I ever need to record something on the desktop (a tutorial or whatever).
It is rather expensive though. I think Fraps is the best option out there.
Try and modify the framerate a bit. What are you running it at?
50fps
For source games? Use source recorder.

Newer versions of fraps records desktop too.
Fraps = Quality
WeGame = Performance.
So it depends on what you're doing really.
The Xfire built in video recorder is nice.
50fps
Go 30.
It hardly noticeable in videos.
WeGame works nicely, thanks a lot guys

Yeah but that forces your framerate to 30fps while recording.
Oh and it's very noticable in videos. just not on Youtube because they force FPS to 25 or 30fps i think.

imo it depends what game.
30 fps in game =/= 30 fps in video
Anyway, FRAPS is only slow if you run it on anything BUT a HDD that is not in use (and fairly fast)
WeGame HyperCam(Can be used with desktop as well) xFire Recording Application There are a few out there.

Another way to get fraps to behave nicely, is to record to a separate harddrive, if you've got one, instead of the one you're playing the game you want to record off of. It'll remove the biggest bottleneck in the recording process.

This.
yep, they're right
fraps default storage folder is your c:/ drive (or your main folder with all your programs in it)
because its running the game (or whatever else) and recording footage and putting it in that same folder at the same time, your framerate will be poor and choppy. As long as you have it saved into another hdd, you should be good to go

Some more bullshit again.

Oh god more bullshit.
I've heard this numerous times and I've tried it with 3 different hard drives. It didn't change one bit.
I also tried it before and after I got a new motherboard, RAM and CPU. No change at all. ( except for the fact that I got a better rig which ultimately caused for better performance of course. )
I'm going to have to agree with Wheeze. I heard that and instantly tried it. No change in performance at all.

Now there is no performance boost but not much also for the people who say there is there isn't much because a game doesn't load much from the hard drive unless you are loading a map.
I both love and hate fraps multi soundchannel support, because the idea is epic, recording surround videos.
Problem is nothing supports it, the audio codec it uses isn't used for anything, not even VLC or CCCP
Fraps is the fucking best. End of story.
Oh you never tried wegame and xfire! Ohh you never tried that that that that, frap laggs lol!!!
NO FRAPS IS FUCKING BEST.
A lot of retards lower the graphic settings when using fraps just since it laggs, this is wrong 50% of the time since fraps have a hard time holding the fps down and thats why it will lagg. You can nearly record anything at 30fps even on fucking triple monitors 5040x1050. Whats important is that the fps ingame need to be around the same amount. So limit the fps or increase the settings to lower the fps.
I've used fraps for years and alot of other differnet recording applications that use different methods to record.
And you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
I really never understood why people need 60 fps video/games.
You guys do know that the human eye can only "see" 30 frames every second, right?
I mean the only reason to have a 60 fps recording is to edit the video to half the speed, so it's not choppy when on slow-motion.
And yeah, use fraps. Play a little with the options, test different settings until you get it to work, but don't change your videogame graphics settings. A good place to start is checking if your recording size is half original size or lower, that way it's perfect for youtube and it uses half the HD space.

Wrong. The eye can definitely see faster then 30fps. 60hz 120hz 240hz televisions would be pointless if we couldn't. In this case 60fps is ideal because that's what standard refresh rates are for monitors.
PlayClaw is supposed to be pretty good, haven't used it much thou.

It lags a little less then WeGame and has better customization ( like framerate and resolution of the output video. )
BUT, the videos lag like utter shit. 60fps looks like 15fps and also it is very expensive.

You're an idiot.
oh wow robbaz is gone
..oh well
@swefox
I heard playclaw was bad..
edit:
i watched their demo video (which was shit), looked like a slideshow
Oh okey.
I always turn the recording size to half, record at 30 FPS to another hard drive and it never slows anything down by a whole lot.

go play css and set fps_max to 30 and try playing, then set it to 0 (unlimited) and tell me there's no difference
'Taksi' is good, but it crashes my games sometimes. It doesn't make you lag at all but the end file size for a 5 minute clip would be about 8 gigs.
