Nigerian militant group Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to Islamic State (IS), according to an audio statement.
The message, which could not immediately be verified, was posted on Boko Haram's Twitter account and appeared to be by the group's leader.
Boko Haram began a military campaign to impose Islamic rule in northern Nigeria in 2009. The conflict has since spread to neighbouring states.
It would be the latest in a series of groups to swear allegiance to IS.
For fuck's sake
Really great :words:
I see they want to be in line for bombings as well
Let's oblige them shall we?
I was literally just looking up if Boko Haram and ISIS were in alliance with eachother. I guess this answers my question.
Doesn't make much of a difference given the amount of distance between them.
All this does is just give Boko Haram more international Notoriety, maybe they'll get more recruits but I doubt there's any other logistical/political/strategical gains from this. In the end I think it just makes it easier for foreign governments to rally their populace to support military intervention, two groups one name.
This is like some shitty action movie on it's 5th or 6th installment where they run out of ideas and combine bad guys from the previous films.
Al Qaeda is getting more lonely by the day.
This Boko Haram guy is gonna pay big time.
Does it mean that Islamic State is a colonial state now
Nigeria must be really happy about this because now other countries are finally doing something about Boko Haram.

Al Qaeda is soo last decade.
I thought they already pledged allegiance to the group?
I thought they already pledged allegiance to the group?
That was my thought. Were they not already?

IIRC there were rumors of it, but it wasn't made public yet.

Not really. Pledging allegiance doesn't change Boko Haram's abilities or supplies. The group in Syria is still priority and Nigeria is not.

It doesn't change anything really, so what's there to really get riled up about?
Meh, seen better collab's
I'm surprised they weren't allied already, they're both as bad as one-another for the same reasons (if I'm not mistaken), only on different scales.
That militant group's name sounds like the name of an anime.
Talk about the most useless alliance in history.
How exactly they'll gonna support one another?
This alliance is just... eh, solidarity among this jihadists.

The only thing this will do will attract some foreign fighters to Boko Haram, but majority will still go to Syria I'm sure.

Daesh has some territory in Libya and Algeria, while Boko Haram operates a couple of borders away in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. If they band together and grow they could carve out a larger extension to the caliphate in Northern Africa.

They don't have territory outside of Syria and Iraq.
They only have "associated groups" with territory in Algeria, Libya and beyond. These are groups that have pledge allegiance but are not formally part of DAESH.

Boko no Isis.

Do you just casually ask yourself these kinds of questions?
Sitting on the toilet when you think:
Does Steven Hawking have an active sex life?
For god's sake (whichever).
This is like getting a monthly report in X-Com and seeing countries side with aliens. Insignificant, but still unpleasant.
So doesn't that mean Boko Haram is now A-OK for a good droning?
The only good thing to come out of this is that hopefully this will result in more attention being directed towards Nigeria.
;47278698']So doesn't that mean Boko Haram is now A-OK for a good droning?
It wasn't before?
Boko Haram isn't going to suddenly "get worse" than it was before. The butchery it was committing beforehand won't double or become more gruesome. Their ability to attack and kill won't expand any further than before.
It's rather stupid that this organization should "now warrant drone attacks" because it suddenly says another group is okay. As if the crimes its committed already was some how not good enough to be labeled a target for drones.
On the bright side hopefully Boko Haram probably won't be ignored as much as they have been, since they put a nice big IR target on their heads announcing they're with ISIS now.
