Hey Musician's Gig Room!
We haven't done a challenge here in a long while, and I had an interesting idea that may or may not have been done before. Let's challenge ourselves to write songs with only ONE sample!
It's quite simple, really. Just select a short sample, like this:
(A recording of me messing up a note on the guitar)
NOTE: You may use this sample, if you'd like! Download it off soundcloud.

And then make an entire song out of the sample, like this:
(This is something I made in around an hour for the thread)

Some guidelines/rules for the challenge:
1. The song must be over 1 minute long.
2. You may only use 1 sample, like the example above.
3a. It does not matter what the sample is. For instance, if you want to make an entire song out of a single 808 snare, then go ahead.
3b. If you use your own sample, please post a soundcloud link to JUST that sample so we can get an idea of what you did with it.
4. You are allowed to edit and mess around with the sample as much as you want.
I also have a few questions. Do you guys want your songs judged, and ranked? If we do that, would you guys like a reward for placing in first? Also, are there any suggestions for the guidelines/rules? Please respond!
After we get enough songs, I'll put together a playlist of everyone's work, to give them a bit more praise!
So, Post your results below! This could be a ton of fun if a lot of people participate.
How about providing one sample that everyone has to work with? Would be neat to hear what kind of results are possible off one sample

I would be ok with using your guitar fucking up sample as the base, why not
I got really tired of doing things this way before I got to arranging it making an intro and shit, so it doesn't really qualify for this as a competition, but I made this

out of this snare/clap

for excrement and giggles.
Is the synth made out of the snare as well?

Yeah, I just looped part of it really quickly, then added vibrato, reverb and flanger in some spots, and played it in chords.
I started with a snare because I knew I could make a synth this way, and making drums out of it would be very easy. If I started with a melodic instrument I would have been able to make a more interesting leading synth, but the snares and hihats would have been much more difficult.
Great thread idea OP. Time to get to work!
New rule: If you use your own sample, please post a soundcloud link to JUST that sample so we can get an idea of what you did with it.
Thanks for participating guys! This will be a ton of fun, I promise!
I took a recording of a really old freezer opening and closing for mine. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/42007840/Freeze.wav

I did something similar to this with raw data from a .dll file a while ago but it had some vsts here and there. Fun stuff.

How did you do this... I couldn't even hear even a close resemblance of the sample in the song, wow. Great work!
ALSO, I'm updating the OP. After we get enough songs, I'll put together a playlist of everyone's work, to give them a bit more praise!
