Following a petition back in March that asked the Obama administration to legalize unlocking cell phones without carrier permission and the administration's response endorsing it, the National Telecommunications & Information Administration filed a formal request today asking the FCC to legalize the process.
Kind of disrespectful to a President to call him that, even if you don't agree with him.

Kind of disrespectful to encourage your intelligence agencies to illegally monitor law abiding citizens, even if they disagree with you.
e: I'm aware that the article has nothing to do with spying on your phone - I just don't think Obama has any room to complain about disrespect while treating everyone in the country like terrorists.

I think it's kind of ridiculous to talk about disrespect when you're also talking about huge invasions of privacy.
Look, he's in the public eye. If it's disrespectful, gee, I guess we better starting jailing people who make political cartoons then, huh?
Well aren't you edgy.
This is JAILBREAKING, by the way, not "looking into your phone". Read the article before being a dipshit.
i don't get why people call him Obongo and things like that, it doesn't even make any sense unless you're an insanely racist Birther or something
That thread title wasn't even close, come on.
It was previously "Obongo wants to look into your phone".
Double dumb title with retarded insult as well as it's not just blatantly sensationalist, but actually completely misleading as well.
(Speaking about it was before it got edited)

I still think it is stupid, after you take ownership of the phone you should be able to do as you please. Most of the time when you end a contract you keep the phone anyway or when you get an upgrade you keep the old phone.

I wouldn't look that deep into it, i think it is just a nickname that people use. Obongo sounds stupid and goofy.

In that case, a 1 day ban is extremely mild.

Honestly seems like someone is pulling the NSA strings behind Obama and also tries to keep him in the dark as much as possible.
Even congress doesn't know what the NSA really does, they blindly agree with it though.
Seems like using "BUT OUR COUNTRY!!" as a excuse for stupid shit is possible now.
If there's someone behind Obama keeping him in the dark he'd still have to know at least as much as we do, and he still supports it. That's all I need to make a judgment.

Obongo was originally created by racist far-right wingnuts to use on unfunny Facebook image macros. It's just that people who aren't actually racist continue to use it because it sounds goofy.

Usually I just fix it, but it was bad enough to warrant that.
He'll be very upset with me, I don't use internet on it.

This isn't about jailbreaking either.
Jailbreaking is when you modify a phone's OS to accept software from third-party sources, and has little to do with the carrier.
Unlocking is modifying a phone that is locked to require a specific carrier to be able to connect to any carrier.

it was actually used in a super racist context initially though. obviously not everyone who uses it is racist, but everyone who uses it unironically is
So what is the main problem people have with this phone tapping thing ASIDE from principle?

You answered your own question there 'bub.

Its not Obama. Its the NSA + Congress. Blame your congressmen (or woman) for allowing this to continue.
Where the fuck are people finding reasons to be pissy at the NSA in this thread
This means they want to make every phone able to use every carrier. That's it. If you believe that's an attempt at spying, you have worse problems than the NSA spying on you

Yeah poor Obama, he had no idea of what the NSA was doing :(

He can't do much if Congress decides to cockblock because "lol fuk u obongo".
Still feels wrong there's so little done against it though.

This thread has nothing to do with the NSA or phone surveillance, so please refrain from making posts like these.
