• Reformatting Questions

So I'm going to be reformatting my computer to clear out all the crap that I've accumulated over the past year or two. There are, however, some important files that I need to hold on to (projects, homeworks, etc). I've got them all clumped together into 1 folder named Necessities. I was thinking that I could move the Necessities folder onto my second hard drive (named Derp), then disconnect the SATA cable from the motherboard. After that I would reformat the original hard drive, wiping it clean and then just reconnect Derp to the motherboard. My question is, would that work, and what would be the specific steps for doing this? Such as when should I reconnect Derp in the process? After I've reinstalled Windows? Secondly, does anyone have a link to the website that has a bunch of programs listed on it that you can just click a checkbox for the ones you want and then it will get you all of the installers for them? Thanks in advance!
There are much easier ways to do the first thing. You don't even have to unplug the hard drive, as formatting only affects one. And if you reinstall windows correctly, it will just dump ALL of your old stuff into the windows.old folder in the new installation. But if you don't want to bother unplugging, just make sure you install Windows to the correct drive when you install it. The website you are looking for is http://www.ninite.com
Thanks for the help! I've never reformatted a computer before, so it's all very new to me, and I don't want to lose all these important files.
