Sometimes, regardless as to whether or not I am playing a game or browsing the web, my graphics driver will randomly crash. This usually follows not using my mouse for a minute and then trying to click something. This also happens if I'm not using my mouse in a game (such as ARMA 2) and then using it again. My driver will crash, and this usually means having to restart ARMA 2.
To remedy this, I have tried: using different drivers (the newest drivers, 275.XX, 280.26, 275.50, etc.), fucking around in Nvidia Control Panel, completely killing Nvidia HD Audio drivers, turning off Aero in Win7, and a host of other shit. I've determined that my memory and monitor are unlikely to be the issue.
So, I'd like to know if there are other solutions, or if a new GPU should be bought. I really like my current GPU, so I'd rather not get a new one.
Relevant info: Nvidia GTX 460, EVGA Nvidia 750i SLI mobo, 4GB of DDR2 800.
I have the same problem (nvidia gtx 260, evga nvidia 780i sli mobo, ddr2) and alas after weeks of debugging on windows: I could not fix it.
However in Linux the problem does not persist; perhaps you can wait till steam for Linux emerges then you can join the Linux crew. :u
If you are sure the GFX card gets proper cooling, there is not much left to do but reinstalling Windows.

The GPU idles in the low 40's, peaks in the low 60's. I'm weary of a Windows reinstallation because I've read that some people have been having the problem even after that.

Yes, I've reinstalled windows twice. It helps none. Literally the only thing I could do to keep it from happening was to switch to Linux.
I even asked for help at EVGA and nvidia technical support forums/ticket help, and they just asked me a bunch of generic questions because they have no clue what's wrong either.
I'm also plagued by this. Sometimes it even gets to the point where I have to reboot my entire computer because my monitor just turns itself off and won't come back on because the driver couldn't restart and thus no output is received.
Same problem, it doesn't help to try any fixes just call up support cause it's probably just a faulty one, like i have.
Could you post us a speccy?

Why would you want/need it?
Probably to help fix your problem

Knowing brand names and temperatures are not going to help, and all the relevant information is in the OP.

It will if the problem were to be somehow completely unrelated to whatever you've posted in the OP, though unlikely. If there were any combos of hardware that suddenly screw up for some reason, then we wouldn't be able to help you much.

Well, I'm running right now on an old 7300 GS and there are no crashes, indicating that my 460 was probably the issue. Looks like I'll be getting a new 7770 or something in the near future, unless there are some objections.
I run a 560 Ti and I have the same issue. I don't think it has specifically to do with the card itself, I think its a driver issue.

After using the 266 driver on the 7300 and coming back to the 460, the driver crashes stopped, but that's due to having been on the 266 driver. The crashes came back after updating the driver to the latest. I'll probably go back to 266 with the 7300 and then go up to 275.

You obviously came here because you could't figure out the problem on your own, so let us. If I need a speccy for that, I need a speccy.
Otherwise you can just RMA the card and wait for weeks to figure out there was nothing wrong with it anyway.

If you haven't fixed this yet I used driver sweeper then installed 301.24, that fixed it for me.

I fixed it by doing a clean install of 267.24.
