Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, has sent a message underlining his regime's support for Syria's Bashar Assad. Pyongyang is apparently still defying international sanctions by trying to sell weapons to Syria.
As debate rages over whether the international community should provide weapons to the Syrian rebels attempting to overthrow Bashar al Assad, North Korea has made its position quite clear.
On November 16, a statement by Kim Jong Un carried by the Korean Central News Agency, a mouthpiece for the government in Pyongyang, ignored global condemnation of Assad's brutal efforts to stamp out opposition and was effusive in its praise for the regime.
"Please accept my warm congratulations to you and the government and people of your friendly country on the 42nd anniversary of the rectification movement in Syria," read the message from Kim, in his official capacity as first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
"The rectification movement was a historic event which provided a landmark occasion in the struggle of the Syrian people to defend the sovereignty of the country and build a highly civilized and prosperous new society.
North Korean material used to make weapons was intercepted on its way to Syria

I can never help but imagine North Korea as Scrappy-Doo, always holding up his fists and going 'Lemme at 'im!' but never fucking doing anything. It's just as annoying, too.
In all seriousness even the cold war era Soviet hand me downs NK would give to Syria would still be useful against the rebels who aren't exactly technically superior themselves

Yeah, like a knife. Maybe the NK would give Assad a box of knives.
NK's been selling stuff to Syria for quite a while iirc, e.g. their domestic Scud derivatives. It's one of the few sources of income they can get.
