Less than a month after the world record for the longest distance travelled on a single charge in a Tesla Model S was set, one ambitious 85D owner attempts to make it into the record books by becoming the first person to drive their way into the exclusive 500 mile club. The current record held by Bjorn Nyland, who travelled 452.8 mi (728.7 km) across Denmark, took more than 18 hours at an average speed of 25 mph to complete. Casey Spencer has his eyes set on cracking the 500 mi barrier by driving his 85D at roughly 20 mph for over 20+ hours. To make the experience interactive (and likely to spare himself from death by boredom), Casey has published a live stream, rightfully entitled “The Fight to 500″, and will be taking live Q&A sessions directly from his YouTube channel.
http://www.teslarati.com/live-stream-tesla-85d-owner-attempts-500-mi-on-a-single-charge/ From this thread: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1484725&p=48638597&viewfull=1#post48638597 His last posting on youtube: Sounds like his laptop batteries are dying. Will he crush the world record set by Bjorn? Will he make it? Will he get pulled over? Will someone rear end him? We won't know until midnight. Good luck and god speed, Supacasey. God speed, hope he makes it.
Good luck! Man that interior is ugly though
I thought that was a big ass ipad for a second
All the best of luck! I'm wondering if any modifications were made to the car such as adding tape over panel gaps or anything
I thought that was a big ass ipad for a second
Why? It's a Tesla. They all have the big screen in the console.
20mph? God help us all.
Wishing the best for our FP bro.
20mph? God help us all.
Granny mode: ENGAGED
All the best of luck! I'm wondering if any modifications were made to the car such as adding tape over panel gaps or anything
I think he over inflated the tires but that's it.
i'd say god speed, but theres not exactly much speed to be had
i'd say god speed, but theres not exactly much speed to be had
Ironicaly, its a pretty fast electric car :v:
i'd say god speed, but theres not exactly much speed to be had
Its top speed is around 130mph so that's pretty damn good for an electric car. My old '97 Civic can't even get to 110. EDIT: nevermind I just read the part where he's going 20mph.
so what happens when his battery completely dies
so what happens when his battery completely dies
Get towed to somewhere where he can charge. A guy I work with has this car and he charges from building power and an extension cable.
Why did you say it was slow? The Model S's 0-60 is like ~5 seconds on the base model and even less on other versions.
so what happens when his battery completely dies
He will be driving to a supercharger so unless his calculations are completely off, or he decides to go further than planned, that shouldn't happen. [editline]15th September 2015[/editline]
Why did you say it was slow? The Model S's 0-60 is like ~5 seconds on the base model and even less on other versions.
More like 2-3 seconds. But he said slow because Supacasey will only be driving 22mph.
Why did you say it was slow? The Model S's 0-60 is like ~5 seconds on the base model and even less on other versions.
because he's driving at 32km/h
Hope he doesn't get a ticket for going to slow.
Where in the hell is he able to drive 20mph for 500 miles safely, this sounds more stupid in this regard than interesting.
More like 2-3 seconds. But he said slow because Supacasey will only be driving 22mph.
He explicitly said base model. And it's HIGH 2 seconds with a 30 grand upgrade from the midrange model (for a total of 40 grand more than base). Don't get me wrong, it's an incredible car, and I'd love to own one, but I'm getting tired of people stretching everything and swearing up and down that the car is the second coming of Christ himself.
Good luck! Man that interior is ugly though
Really? I love the minimal touch to it, i hate a dashboard that is filled with hundreds of buttons.
Why? It's a Tesla. They all have the big screen in the console.
Not everyone has seen the interior of a Tesla.
Really? I love the minimal touch to it, i hate a dashboard that is filled with hundreds of buttons.
Because when I'm driving, I want to look at a screen. Physical buttons do have their uses that way. My real fear is that if one button goes down you can ignore it or use a workaround, if the screen goes down (a phone flies into the glass or something) you've lost all your AC, Music, etc. control
Wait, the car/battery works better at 32°C (90°F)? That doesn't sound too good for countries with colder climates. Unless it's only a marginal difference.

Touch screens for media control in cars are fucking awful
