A North Dakota NBC affiliate has fired its newest anchor after he started his new job by uttering the words “fucking shit” as the weekend news broadcast began. As anchor Van Tieu was introducing A.J. Clemente for his first ever KFYR-TV broadcast on Sunday, he could be heard uttering the unfortunate phrase. “Fucking shit,” Clemente said, looking down and mumbling as if he had no idea that the broadcast had begun. Obviously confused by the profanity, Tieu briefly paused before giving Clemente a chance to say hello the the audience. “That couldn’t have gone any worse!” Clemente later Tweeted. “Tough day,Thanks for the support,We all make mistakes. Im truly sorry for mine. I’ll try my hardest to come back better and learn from this.” But as it turned out, the anchor would never have that chance to “come back better” at KRYR. “Unfortunately KFYRTV has decided to let me go,” he wrote on Monday. “Thank you to them and everyone in ND for the opportunity and everyone for the support.” “Rookie mistake. I’m a free agent.Cant help but laugh at myself and stay positive.Wish i didnt trip over my ‘Freaking Shoes’ out of the gate.”
Poor guy. He was just nervous and they fired him for it.
What fucking shit luck. In the door and out the door in two words. I don't know whether to rate this friendly or funny.
My first words on air were "ma ma".
Why does he carry on muttering and looking down when Van starts talking?
That's a shame, after learning about the industry I wouldn't put past me to make a mistake like that too. I hope he gets a chance somewhere else after being more aware of what's going on around him.
I wish people would get over this illogical fear of certain words. Feel bad for the guy.
Don't the studios usually have some sort of "DING DING, ON AIR IN 3 SECONDS, CHUCKLEFUCKS" device?
Don't the studios usually have some sort of "DING DING, ON AIR IN 3 SECONDS, CHUCKLEFUCKS" device?
The Chucklefuck Dinger 3000 experienced technical problems.
Don't the studios usually have some sort of "DING DING, ON AIR IN 3 SECONDS, CHUCKLEFUCKS" device?
They do, I wouldn't put it past him that he wasn't paying attention. You can kinda see he was almost in another world. Like as if he's trying to get his bearings together too little too late
Don't the studios usually have some sort of "DING DING, ON AIR IN 3 SECONDS, CHUCKLEFUCKS" device?
Not all of them, i think.

Well, they couldn't have not fired him after all. I also hope his career isn't ruined.

Isn't American TV a bit too strict on these things?
Isn't American TV a bit too strict on these things?
Yeah that's why they fired him.
Tape delay? Yes they usually do.
He doesn't mean tape delay, but there is normally a guy that counts it in.
I dont feel bad for him. He had to conform to a level professionalism that the station wanted... and failed at doing so.
Might have been a bit easier on him if he didn't appear to be in a completely other world. Just sits there looking down until addressed, then he looks up and stumbles over a few sentences.
Honestly, I doubt he will get a job elsewhere. People feeling sorry for him and think that they shouldn't have fired him is kind of ridiculous. If I was his boss I wouldn't want his unprofessional attitude in the workplace. When working, especially when you are new and do not know the bounds that limit in the workplace, you should be on your best behavior and not pushing it. Even if he would have said this before going live I would have gotten rid of him for unprofessional attitude.

Someone swears. Boo freaking hoo. Poor guy lost his job.
Seriously... it's the local news and a simple mistake. It's not like he hailed hitler on national television. I hope some other news station hires him.
I don't know why you are all defending him. Being a TV news anchor requires you to maintain composure and professionalism. Granted, people do make mistakes, after which they apologize and move on. This guy's first appearance on air was two swear words followed by muttering, failing to look at the camera and stuttering. This is a terrible first impression to make, and makes it obvious that this guy is simply not cut out for the job. Frankly, he probably isn't a good anchor, and should not be in that position if he can't handle himself.
Someone swears. Boo freaking hoo. Poor guy lost his job.
Wouldn't be a big deal if it was CNN or Fox News. Unfortunately, this is NBC, which is a free to air station. You cannot legally use that kind of language on air. The station could get in big trouble by the FCC over this. [editline]22nd April 2013[/editline] I guess I sort of feel bad for him, but the station's reaction wasn't exactly uncalled for.
Someone swears. Boo freaking hoo. Poor guy lost his job.
yes someone not doing their job getting fired, what a shocker, how sad
But it was his first day. Everybody has bad first days!
But it was his first day. Everybody has bad first days!
First impressions mean quite a lot, especially on jobs involving TV. And swearing on American TV is considered a deadly sin.
Didnt he think about the children?! Americas youth is ruined.
I bet these were his last words too.
