Problem with this entire idea is that most popular torrent sites, and even sites that host the files directly generally don't have advertising from non adult-sources.
For example, I doubt they can ask the people behind "BUY HOT RUSSIAN BRIDE IN YOUR AREA" from advertising on piratebay.
The article clearly says:
They have also been working with the advertising industry to stop household brands advertising on illegal sites.
Are you suggesting hot russian brides in my area not a household brand? Surely every household knows that hot russian brides in my area are a must!
They wait a year before releasing the last season on DVD, and don't allow Netflix, Itunes, hulu or any other service to stream it then complain about piracy?
Thats exactly the point though, this wont even dent the larger sites that people use.
You are literally only going to damage sites which would be willing to drop these services, and in that case that won't stop the piracy at all, people will move onto these other sites that use adult advertising.
They are not stopping anything, this quite literally solves none of their problems.
Do you think these people are smart enough to realize that? Hell, they could be making bank off of streaming it or something, but no. That's why everyone fucking pirates it, because they're unwilling to provide it in any format other than whatever extremely limited options they have.

Well, they DO have HBOGO or whatever they call it now. And it apparently has the entirety of the show up to the current episode. I'm guessing not every provider gives access to that?
is game of thrones even good
is game of thrones even good
To a lot of people, it is. I personally feel its very over rated, but that's just my opinion.
is game of thrones even good
It's quite good.
The only legal way to legally watch the latest GoT (4th season) in Germany right now is on Sky. And I'm not paying 35€ a month for that. That's roughly $50. You fucking what, mate?
Well, they DO have HBOGO or whatever they call it now. And it apparently has the entirety of the show up to the current episode. I'm guessing not every provider gives access to that?
Not accessible anywhere outside of the States afaik.
They do have it here, called HBO Nordic. I might go with that considering that they probably won't show season 4 anywhere else for the next 6 months.

I don't even think HBOGO works here (then again, neither does Netflix or Hulu). Which means unless you pay for Sky TV or find some other site, if you miss an episode, you're fucked for a good year or two.
is game of thrones even good
It's actually really good, although people tend to make a huge fuss about it. The thing is that it's rather one of the best medieval/drama series with a unique fantasy spin.

HBO GO got bombed for about an hour or two for me. They weren't prepared for the flood of people I guess, least with HBO GO you get to watch it immediately instead of having to wait 6 months or more like shows on Netflix.
They are cracking down on 61 torrent websites when there must be countless more not to mention any private ones.
You'll never take my private trackers.
Why has it taken so long to reduce the broadcast times between the US and UK?
It is an extensive process requiring dubbing in multiple languages. Technological advances have now allowed for quicker production and delivery.
seriously HBO? just going to bullshit an answer just like that?
They launched HBO Nordic some time ago but it sucks so bad.
It has a fairly cheap monthly cost, if you bind up the subscription for a whole year.
If you don't want a full year, the monthly cost is almost doubled.
I'm already paying for Spotify and Netflix. I fail to see why I should be forced to pay another monthly subscription for JUST watching GoT. They don't have that many other shows I'm interested in.
Then there is the fact that the player sucked, it's laggy and required some third party browser plugin for DRM.
When I tried it for a free month, and my month expired, and I cancelled it a head of time (you had to cancel it it before the month was out), they STILL charged me two months in a row. Even though I couldn't watch anything. I contacted support the first month, and they said I was now finally cancelled and I would get my money back within a week. Nope, charged me next month and no money back. After going a bit back and forth with their support, I finally snapped and threatened to do a chargeback and contact consumer protection services if I didn't have my money by the end of the week. I got the refund the next day.
They tried, but it's a big mess.
is game of thrones even good
people go mental about it, as you can see up there where someone was dumbed for expressing the opinion that it wasn't that good
it has amazing production values and costuming and shit, but honestly, if you've read the books, the show just feels like half of what it could be.
Its on Google Play for £1.89 an episode, which is a bit too steep for me. I seriously want to see it on Netflix more than anything.
I thought this was basically the show.

I'm not surprised if they actually think people will be willing to wait a year to pay £30 to buy the season on DVD when you can just download each episode as they are released for free, albeit illegally.
I'm sorry for living in Sweden and not wanting to pay 8€ to watch a single TV-Show once a week.

HBO are never ever going to let that happen.
hang on, am i understanding this correctly?
they will replace adverts with a message from the unit.
sounds like they are hacking websites.

Not every cable provider has access to the web side of HBOGO, and which have access to console/roku/other player versions differ on the device you're trying to use. My roommate tried setting it up on our PS3 only to find out that Comcast Xfinity isn't one of the supported cable providers (despite them being supported on the 360).
"lets restrict who is allowed to air or stream our content."
10 minutes later
"Why is everyone pirating our work???"
They dug their own graves for how badly pirated their stuff is. I have no sympathy for their lost revenue.
What a sensationalised title.
"Police puts adverts on piracy websites" would be more appropriate.
Either way, "It is important to recognize that piracy is not an HBO issue but an industry issue." is complete bollocks. Yes, piracy is an industry issue, but the reason HBO gets it so bad is because there are so few ways to watch it.
