Update drivers?
It's been happening even with updated drivers.
Windows 7?
yah..but i had the same issue with vista.
Latest updated drivers? (if you do have 196.21, don't bother reading the rest of this post) I just finished playing Bioshock a second time, and I noticed that there were random lag spikes all the time, something that didn't happed with the same PC back when I bought the game in May. The fix was to get the latest drivers(which for me were 196.21) as apparently there was a bug in 185(that persisted in 191, the version I had) that caused said lag spikes. After updating to the newest drivers, the lag was gone. Well, I did have some lag in places but that was just due to me running Bioshock at full settings on an E7400 and and 8800GS. Basically, make sure you have the latest drivers, not just recent ones.
Turn off Aero. It might help.
Driver version: 8.17.11.9621 [editline]06:26PM[/editline]
Turn off Aero. It might help.
Okay I think I got it..lemme try it. [editline]07:08PM[/editline] Hmmm...I think I'm noticing a slight bit of difference.. [editline]08:04PM[/editline] It's not doing much though...Things like moving water, smoke, etc are making me lag still.
I'm still having issues with fire, water, smoke etc...anyone have any clues?
Temps?
Temps?
current temps according to Speedfan: I also disabled quiet fan (I remembered this caused me issues with WoW back when I played)
Any newly installed program running in the background? For example, some anti-virus softwares can cause problem while playing.
not really...Just turned on windows basic and disabled quiet fan..lets see what happens..
open your computer and blow air on it. it might work.
open your computer and blow air on it. it might work.
Tried already.
Try running the game in windowed mode and have a task manager open and visible so you can see if the cpu spikes or anything like that.
Try running the game in windowed mode and have a task manager open and visible so you can see if the cpu spikes or anything like that.
whenever I tried to tab into the manager the game would pause so it was kinda hard to tell..
Dont tab into the manager. Have the game in a resolution so both your game and the part from the task manager you want to see fits.
Dont tab into the manager. Physical memory while not in bioshock: 30% While in bioshock: 45%
Ok, then we can exclude that the ram usage/CPU usage is to high. Are you getting these lag spikes when you're playing on lower graphics also?
Ok, then we can exclude that the ram usage/CPU usage is to high. Are you getting these lag spikes when you're playing on lower graphics also?
Hmm..lemme see. [editline]04:45PM[/editline]
Ok, then we can exclude that the ram usage/CPU usage is to high. Are you getting these lag spikes when you're playing on lower graphics also?
The cpu usage is still around 50-70 but it seems to be slightly less laggy..The main reason I'm asking all this is because I bought bioshock 2 and I really want to play it with high graphics with no problems..Ever since I changed to windows 7 from xp I've been having these issues and ever since I got this 1.5tb harddrive.
Hmm...lemme try that. [editline]06:01PM[/editline] didn't really do much..when I go around running water, fire, etc my fps decreases...
Did you make sure "Use the advanced 3d image settings" was checked in the "Adjust image settings with preview" menu? I had the same problem with huge lag by any effects, and this made the lag disappear.
yah..it's checked. Dear computer...would you kindly fix yourself? [sp]Bioshock joke[/sp]
Use HWMonitor for temps. Speed fan is known to be inaccurate. Play the game for 30 mins the post a pic of HWMonitor on here.
Try to run a stresstest / benchmark, it might help pointing out the cause of this mess

If you have an Nvidia card (I'm not sure if Radeon cards can do this too) go the control panel and set the number of prerendered frames to 0. I had a similar problem and it helped.

Still would like some help on this..bioshock 2 comes out tomorrow..I have more then better specs for it..but I want to have it run great. [editline]04:00PM[/editline] Turned of vsync..lag happening less...
All I can suggest is uninstall video drivers, and reinstall updated ones from Nvidia site.
