• SATA hard drive not being detected in new computer build

The mobo is an Asus M4A87TD Harddrive is a Seagate 500gb In bios, the CDrom drive (which is also SATA) is detected every time. I have tried changing ports, loading default BIOS options and also loading SATA drivers on a floppy for loading with WinXP installer, no dice. Any ideas?
From my experience Asus mobos have a bad rep for not picking up your hard drive, I couldn't get my computer to boot this afternoon. Fixed it by jiggling the connectors, but it doesn't look like that's your problem. Beyond that I can't really help you, try asking Odellus or Buttsex, or dropping a question in the CIPWTTKT thread.
yeah, I have read a lot of threads about the same thing on various forums about the Asus mobos [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] update: I've flashed the bios to the latest version, and tried to use SATA drivers with the XP installer again with no luck

[QUOTE=wlzshroom;28556313]please do not suggest this ever again, we hate this[/QUOTE] I thought it was officially the CIPWTTKT and General Computer Discussion thread since v6
Yes but, we've stated a few times to people, all small questions belong in the "Quick questions that don't deserve a thread thread."
Listen to the drive, if it clicks or even spins up. It's possible it was DOA
[QUOTE=Murkrow;28568459]Listen to the drive, if it clicks or even spins up. It's possible it was DOA[/QUOTE] I tried that to some extent, I'm gonna unscrew it from the case to try and isolate it to see if it makes any noise. Thanks [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] just listened to it on start up, it makes short whirring sounds over and over. is that a sign that drive could be bad? [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] fuck it, I'm RMAing it. the drive didn't even work in my normal computer. mods can close the thread or whatever
Is the SATA port enabled? Sometimes the all ports are not enabled. Look in the bios under SATA options.
