George Lucas expressed his confidence about director J.J Abrams Helming the upcoming "Star Wars Episode 7." During the 2013 Crystal + Lucy Awards, the original creator of Star Wars told Access Hollywood that Abrams fundamentally understood the series. Lucas stated, "Yeah. J.J.'s a great director and we're friends. I think he understands the whole thing and how it works." He added that he believed in producer Kathleen Kennedy. He said, "If he doesn't, [Lucasfilm president] Kathy [Kennedy] will keep it straight." Lucas also confirmed that he would not be involved in the project. He said, "If they need help or anything, they'll give me a call. Otherwise, I'm off on my own."
http://www.latinospost.com/articles/21567/20130616/star-wars-episode-7-news-update-george-lucas-will-work.htm
Here's the problem: J.J is a good director. A good writer? Eeeh...
What has JJ written?
YES
Here's the problem: J.J is a good director. A good writer? Eeeh...
He's still better than Lucas.
What has JJ written?
the pilot episode of LOST
Good. The prequel trilogy was ruined by not having a Spielberg to call out Lucas' insane ideas. Here's to hoping it's something smarter and deeper than another dumb JJ Abrams action movie.
He's still better than Lucas.
In all fairness, he did write the original trilogy. He probably lost his edge with the I II and III. III was pretty solid though.
What has JJ written?
The Star Trek movies which brought his own twist on the series, making it really cool and fresh for fans of the old show.
The Star Trek movies which brought his own twist on the story making it really cool and fresh for fans of the old show.
He didn't write them, he directed them. They were written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Damon Lindelof helped write the second.
He wrote Super 8
Damon Lindelof helped write the second.
that explains so much
the pilot episode of LOST
But that wasnt the worst thing in LOST in fact it wasnt even bad, it set up the whole story p well, it was all the rest that was bad
He wrote Super 8
No wonder it was so bad.
Didn't he write some for fringe?
In all fairness, he did write the original trilogy. He probably lost his edge with the I II and III. III was pretty solid though.
Wasn't Lucas' first scripts terrible?
But that wasnt the worst thing in LOST in fact it wasnt even bad, it set up the whole story p well, it was all the rest that was bad
I thought the intro was great.
Wasn't Lucas' first scripts terrible?
Yes, and they were edited by Lucas after years and years of being turned away from the studio, this refinement was lost for the prequels since he was the studio at that point and he cracked out the scripts in a matter of a few weeks or months.
No wonder it was so bad.
super 8 was really damn good tho
In all fairness, he did write the original trilogy. He probably lost his edge with the I II and III. III was pretty solid though.
I thought it was well-known that Lucas actually fucking despised all the sequels/prequels to Star Wars, and only wanted it to be a single film.
Good. The prequel trilogy was ruined by not having a Spielberg to call out Lucas' insane ideas. Here's to hoping it's something smarter and deeper than another dumb JJ Abrams action movie.
... what? Spielberg wasn't involved in the OT. Spielberg was involved with Indiana Jones 4. And we know how that turned out
He's still better than Lucas.
That's not saying much, Lucas writes on the level of fanfiction.
... what? Spielberg wasn't involved in the OT. Spielberg was involved with Indiana Jones 4. And we know how that turned out
I think that was more about Lucas being really vocal about his opinion in everything in the movie though. Theres a video of the making of that shows that pretty clearly.
Wait...I thought the script was being written by the guy that wrote Toy Story 3, and J.J. was only there to direct it.
... what? Spielberg wasn't involved in the OT. Spielberg was involved with Indiana Jones 4. And we know how that turned out
imo there's barely anything more over the top in indiana jones 4 than in the last films (specifically temple of doom) aliens? voodoo magic guys fridge? inflatable raft
Didn't he write some for fringe?
I believe he wrote several episodes, basically several different people alternated around when it came to episode writing, at least in the first season.
No wonder it was so bad.
Is your effin' head broken?
Weren't some the writes of Empire doing the script and story for Episode VII? I'm not entirely sure but I do know some the writers of either ANH,ESB and RoTJ were coming back to do the scripts and story IIRC.
No wonder it was so bad.
Super 8 is one of my favorite movies, coincidentally right next to Star Wars. shut your face
Super 8 was an ET ripoff ffs... It was ET crossed with a xenomorph and with the ugliest kid actors I've ever seen... To think that it was even teased in portal 2, in the form of a playable level... That was so disappointing. When you fucking tease a game to Portal 2 gamers that are potantial 30 year olds with big manly hairy balls, you do it because you know it's going to appeal to them a lot! How in God's name did that fucking kindergarten meets friendly retarded xenomorph movie appeal to such people? I literally went to that movie attempting not to spoil it for me from the trailers and I went with a mate. We were 2 hairy metal heads in the cinema, watching a kids movie about love and friendship between little kids and fucking T-Rexemorph (that eats brains but then find that he loves kids and is acually very nice and has kind eyes...) After that movie was over both me and my mate came out of the fucking movie theather and we felt the urge to stop for some milk and honey at the corner, and discuss about how much virginity and gayness have we accumulated during that movie... So don't even dare to bring up Super 8 as a good example. Star Wars ep 7 has a shitty director and everybody knows it. Star Wars can be very good when it's done with a much higher level of seriousness added to it's characters. It has been shown in CG movie clips for games like Star Wars the Old Republic, that Star Wars can be even better than the movies, even without Lucas's help!
