The Best Team Fortress 2 Players Can Now Sell Their Names For Advertising
Luke Plunkett — Danish advertising firm Uncle Grey, in an effort to hire the kind of people they were looking for, decided against paying magazines and newspapers and websites for job ads, and instead paid some Team Fortress 2 players instead.
Those players had to change their names to that of the company, and while playing had to run around putting up posters advertising the vacant positions.
It's a neat idea as a one-off, sure, but I have to avoid enough spruikers as it is when I go out in the real world. If i have to put up with them in Team Fortress 2 as well, I will not be pleased.
And very quickly you see people getting automatically banned for running around doing these advertisements.
Shit idea
oh wow
what a lazy company
When the power over your advertisements is handled by people who don't want your advertisements, you're just throwing money in a burning oil drum. In fact, you'd be better off taking a burning oil drum on a sidewalk and just throwing the money in the fire. Then you'd have people asking you what the hell you're doing at which point you hit them with the advertisement.
So many spelling mistakes in that video, and when they were talking ingame, this is why people think us danes can't speak english.

If you watched the entire video you'd see that they actually got more than 50 applications the first week and eventually hired one of them.
They probably did this for ~$100.
It's a clever idea, just... don't start putting ads in my games.
Please.

the whole TF2 hat fiasco is technically one huge advertisement.
For the company that makes the game...
TF2 has been dead to me for a long time.
It's becoming overkill at this point.

this is no fault of tf2 itself

You mean Valve? Yeah I know, I think that was pretty clear.
That doesn't mean TF2 isn't getting even worse because of 3rd parties--it clearly is.
I didn't think it was possible for it to be worse.

Your opinion doesn't represent the entire game.

So you think this is a good thing? Because that is the only point I am making here.
My point is that this will make the game worse. My opinion is secondary, I thought it was terrible before, as soon as the hat bullshit started. I'm sorry I included my opinion about the game in my statement, I guess?

um how exactly is this "ruining" Team Fortress 2, I don't really see how a company wanting to recruit for their business using an incredibly popular game is damaging to the game's reputation

There's a difference between hats for the games, and doing something that has no relation whatsoever to Valve and is not affiliated to them in any way. It's like one of the footballers in a game shouting out that a local shop is looking for workers.

They have like 30 people out of the 20,000 people who play TF2 each day. It will do nothing to the average player, and is nothing more than a name and maybe the odd chat message, which won't bother you in the unlikely event you come across one of them.

Uhh, why do people keep interpreting my post that way. This has already been clarified.
I never said anywhere that this had anything to do with Valve at all.

Lol, where in my post did I say "ruin?" No where. You are making things up.
the whole TF2 hat fiasco is technically one huge advertisement.
Not exactly, hats are a brilliant and humorous addition to an Online-Shooter, but they also apparently work great as a marketing gimmick; i.e the Promotional hats, making promo indie-games and such more appealing choice of purchase so more money for Valve through Steam AND for the developer of the game just because it gets you a bonus hat.
And do I need to mention the Unusual hats? Money from those go straight into Valve's pocket, no advertising there really.
I say thats clever, only time will tell how it will work.

or you could watch the video
"I have hats clueless marketeers, I am so pro!"
I don't know about you guys but the opportunity to shoot spruikers is gold
I see no problem with this. Sprays are already allowed in-game, names aren't restricted, and it doesn't look like the promoters are spamming the chat with their message.
Wait, touters in TF2 now? This really IS becoming an MMO.

You're an idiot, and quit spouting bullshit, you were clearly implying that it was ruining.
I fail to see how a few competitive players with a company as their display name and spraying a small spray is making tf2 worse.
And what do you mean "tf2 is dead" and is "becoming overkill"? Incase you haven't realized, tf2 has a pretty huge fanbase and still does to this day. Just because a small amount of facepunchers and SPUF members bitch about hats doesn't mean it's dead.
