I remember spongebob from like 5 or 6 years ago, it was really funny. Now it a load of ADD pure retardation! What the hell happened?
The original staff quit and got replaced by a bunch of incompetents
Jeeze, I hope they didn't sell out...
You grew up.
All of the above.
The show got milked too far. I think it gets pretty obvious when the staff starts running out of ideas, and resorts to putting nothing but shit on the air because five year old children don't realize the difference between a decent show and absolute crap.
Seems to me it's more like "Spongebob According to Squidward" nowadays. The newer episodes just consist of annoying the hell out of him.
You grew up.
No, it just got shitty. It honestly just lost it's touch, after the movie the downfall of it began when the original creator stepped down and other writers left, new ones joined in, etc. It did have a nice touch to it back then, plenty of good humor where it could be childish and smart at the same time, now it's just fallen into the randumb crowd by making Spongebob and Patrick pure retards, and Squidward the punching bag. Yeah they were slow witted before but to a certain degree, now they just went overboard with it since they've dried up on good jokes and figure they can just get away with pointless random filler. @OP It's been like this ever since about Season 4 I think, and they're on Season 7 or 8 now, it should have ended after the movie. The movie was great and would've made a perfect ending to the show. You can't say you're not surprised that Nickeledeon still wants to milk it for all of its worth though.
I still find the older episodes funny Some of them were actually quite clever, now it's more in your face "humor"
SB-129 is still to me one of the best episodes of any show ever. I haven't watched Spongebob since the movie, and now I don't think I'm gonna.
I just finished watching one of the new episodes and I had just said this to my little brother who was watching it. Some are alright but most are just meaningless garbage.
Started sucking after the movie. Too bad, it was a great show the first few seasons. I remember waking up at 10 sunday morning in '99 to watch the premiere.
When I first started watching it again, I wasn't expecting it to be as funny, but it did exceed my expectations, I must say. I watch it all the time now. It has time left.
noone ever say you grew up, i've seen classic episodes and the shit ones lately and it's so easy to tell
I still chuckle at Rugrats, but I've never chuckled at Spongebob after the movie. Now they're just milking it.
The original staff quit and got replaced by a bunch of incompetents
Happened sometime right after the movie I believe too. I still watch the original episodes if I catch them on, but I can't watch the new garbage. [editline]31st March 2011[/editline] At least the movie was a great end for the original writers and staff.
I'm no expert in funnyness of Spongebob trends, but yeah, the new episodes suck.
Great show, but it died after the movie, which was an epic movie by the way... Totally would have been a great high note to end on, but no. Got to keep milking all the money they can out of it.
The show was supposed to end at the movie. As far as I'm concerned, it did.
Ed Edd'n'Eddy ended with a movie. Perfect series. :allears:
Ahhhh I remember the first Episode of sponge bob!
I still laugh at some of the episodes, however it's a different kind of laugh and is absolute shit compared to the older episodes.
God I loved spongebob and I still do, though like many have said its newer episodes are simply garbage. I remember going to see the movie, we all thought that it'd be the end of spongebob at that point and we were moping about it, though it came to a surprise that they'd still be making episodes past that point (at the time I had no idea about the writers being swapped up since I was like, 10) and I'll admit I enjoyed most of the first season after the movie, though it quickly started to degrade. The old episodes were pure genius even looking back at them now.
Never seen that show. I've heard of it, though. Grew up in Canada on YTV. Was never on that channel.
You poor thing :canada: It was an amazing show.
You poor thing :canada: It was an amazing show.
Many manly tears were shed while I watched that movie. I like to imagine that when the voice actors left the recording studio for the last time they acted like they were in the final episode of Cheers.
Ahhhh I remember the first Episode of sponge bob!
I remember first hearing about it. "Oooo a show about a sponge? HA! It'll never get popular." How wrong I was...
I re watched some of the earlier episodes on netflix, it's still funny. [editline]1st April 2011[/editline]
Never seen that show. I've heard of it, though. My favourite episode will always be that squidward town one

He's the guy with the long, brown, frizzy hair.
