• Is an iPhone 4GS likely to launch?

Hello. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I genuinely tried to dig up information about this, Google gave me gimmicky results for the most part, and I'm really not savvy at all on Apple's products. Excuse the wording in my thread title, I'm not trying to imply that there will be a 4GS. I'm about to purchase the iPhone 4 when my friend asked me if it wouldn't be wise to wait for the 4GS (I believe he is pretty sure it will exist). My question for you is if you know anything about a possible 4GS (or whatever a successor could be named in this case) is being worked on? While I'm making a thread I'd like to know a bit about if the talk about The Death Grip. Have you experienced noticeable problems with the signal? My brother told me his friend has no problems with the signal, but they live in a major city, whereas I live in a bit of a rural area. I'm afraid my area will have a negative impact, although we have no problems out here with regular cellphones. Thanks for any information.
Apple is almost certainly looking into a new iPhone already, but why wait for it?
2007 - iPhone 2008 - iPhone 3G 2009 - iPhone 3GS 2010 - iPhone 4 2011 - ??? You decide
A new will probably be released, but if you wish to wait another year to see it, then do it. I'm pretty sure that if a new one gets released, it will be somewhere in the end of 2011.

4GS is unlikely, since iPhone 4 has already a decent performance, and after that no one would buy "iPhone 5" because everyone would be waiting for "5GS". A totally new iPhone (like 3GS -> 4) must be already in development, but that will take a long time to be ready.
Do you even know what the "S" part of "3GS" stood for? Speed. iPhone 4 won't be needing any hardware upgrade for quite a while. [editline]24th October 2010[/editline] However, there's a rumor about the "iPhone 3,2", which is a revision of the iPhone 4 that have both CDMA and GSM band support.
there'd have to be an iPhone 4G in the first place are you even familiar with what the 3G in iPhone 3G/3GS means? [editline]24th October 2010[/editline] contrarily to obnoxiously popular belief, the iPhone 4 does not utilize nor have the capabilities for 4G data. also contrarily to obnoxiously popular belief, it is not referred to as iPhone 4G, either.
It will not be called the "4GS" unless it is on a 4G network. It was called a 3GS because it was an iPhone 3G +speed = 3GS.
When AT&T rolls out their 4G network in full blast, I's look for Apple to follow closely.
I'm guessing it's gonna be called the iPhone 4G to stay consistent with the names.

Well, rumors state that some sort of CDMA/GSM iPhone will be releasing on both Verizon and AT&T mid next year. It might only be on AT&T but with the iPad on Verizon you might as well have the iPhone too.
Is this a joke? AT&T is hilariously bad.
actually it's just that, and this is serious, due to their exclusivity and the popularity of iPhones, their network's bandwidth has been ripped to shit.

What I hate is how I can have 5 bars with 3G take 5 steps and only have 1 bar on standard connection.
Is this a joke? AT&T is hilariously bad.
I didn't state that AT&T was good. Granted, in my area it perform well, but I didn't say they were stellar. I was more giving a reference point.
The speed is decent in my opinion. What I hate is how I can have 5 bars with 3G take 5 steps and only have 1 bar on standard connection.
that's just cellular interference, interestingly enough it is also not at&t's fault.
that's just cellular interference, interestingly enough it is also not at&t's fault.
I've never had that problem on Verizon. I took a trip that was a 4 hour drive, Verizon had a full or almost full connection the whole entire time, my iPhone only had connection about 12% of the time.
it depends on location, but i was specifically referring to taking five steps and then dropping from 5 bars to 1. where i live both verizon and at&t are the same in signal strength, speed, and availability.

So, I'm glad I don't live in NYC and Arizona where 3G is close to no where crowded. Maybe it's changed. I know there is about 15 towers going up (disguised as palm trees, 5 every square mile, don't know who's doing them though).
The iPhone will see an update most likely next june, so if you want to wait it might be worth it.
