• Local Area Connection Disappearing

My girlfriend is having a really weird issue with her Windows XP laptop. When you start up the computer the taskbar has little icons for the wireless and local area connections as you would expect. Icons also appear in the "Network Connections" window and in hardware manager corresponding to the wireless and local area connections. But a few seconds after startup, the local area connection icon disappears completely: from the taskbar, network connections window, and hardware manager. I tried reinstalling the drivers for the network adapter but with no effect: Windows doesn't seem to think the card exists at all. But even weirder, right before the computer shuts down everything appears again! How can I get this working?
It disappearing from the taskbar is normal as long as it's plugged into an ethernet cable but if it's not then you have a deeper issue. What's the computer make/model?
Eh, it randomly fixed itself. Weird.
