Machinegames' take on the Wolfenstein franchise is coming to consoles and PC on May 20, Bethesda Softworks announced today, and beta access to the long-in-development new Doom from id Software is being offered as incentive for pre-ordering the game.
According to a release from Bethesda, everyone who pre-orders the game will be invited to access the Doom beta with their copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order. More details on the Doom beta pre-order incentive are promised at the official Wolfenstein website.
When contacted for information about the new Doom, Bethesda declined to provide additional comment or platform details, but confirmed that it's the next Doom title currently being worked on by id Software. A release date for Doom and its beta was not provided.
Doom 4?
Tempting, but odd, for a singleplayer game like Doom to have a beta access.

The industry has long forgotten the real meaning of 'beta', and now assumes it means 'demo'.
Ah shit, the new one's just going to be called 'DOOM' isn't it. I'm sick of these reboots that have the same name as the original/Tomb Raider/Sim City

Ah, well, that makes more sense then.
i don't want to get hyped
no
brain please

ah fuck it
they better have E1M1 on the soundtrack

Doesn't Doom have a type of multiplayer component?
The industry has long forgotten the real meaning of 'beta', and now assumes it means 'demo'.
So does the general gaming community so at least you can't accuse them of being out of touch in that regard.
if it's a multiplayer beta I have no expectations at this point
I end up thinking back to the halo 3 multiplayer beta (which was bundled with crackdown 1, ah the memories); I thought that shit was amazing. Everything about it (I fucking loved how the bubble shield was in the beta), I honestly think I enjoyed it more than the multiplayer I ended up with in halo 3. I just felt more of their initial vision from the game in the beta, same as in the Battlefield 2142 beta. That game was balls-to-the-walls amazing in the beta, especially when the rocket pods weren't nerfed and you could literally fly around the map in pods to your hearts content. Till they changed it for the final game (which still ended up amazing)
I'm ready to become Dwayne Johnson

Doom 3 wasn't singleplayer only.
i seriously hope that doom 4 will have the "shoot everything up like a badass" feel that doom 1 and 2 had, it sorta sucks how 3 ditched it
Doom 3 wasn't singleplayer only.
In fact, DOOM has always had multiplayer from the start.
Local only at first, you know, but still.
Anyway, good news!

I liked the new approach in Doom 3 in a way but it stopped being scary way too fast.
The main reason the game was mostly in the dark anyway was because the engine flat-out did not render anything that was in the dark so it made the game run a lot better.

It's not a first for the company. The only reason they used a first person perspective from the start was because it meant they could save resources rendering a player.
...Steam?
The reason Doom 4 pretty much flopped was Source came out around the same time. And source made improvements like mouths moving fluidly and different techniques, whereas the Doom 3 engine was all about lighting and it did it quite well.

are you from the future?

But it makes sense. DOOM. 4 letters, it's the fourth game.
...Steam?
the trailer doesn't list any consoles, or PC.

Bottom of the site has all this, but no Steam Logo.

It'll be interesting to see how this turns out with Carmack gone.
are you from the future?
Hes talking about Source 2 and Half life 3.
I think they'll put it on Steam, since their last game, Doom 3 BFG was on Steam too.
So I should preorder a game I may not even like for the chance to play the unfinished version of a reboot? No thanks.

They'd better have me in the game as opposed to the 10k
Bethesda games are always on steam.

Yeah, Doom 5 was a bit crap too. I hate what they've done to the series ever since Doom 4.
New order.
Doom.
Be ready.
Who cares if it's on Steam as long as it's on PC
Interesting. Might pre-order.
The latest Wolfestein was.. eh.
