"And how did I get elected? Nobody was, I didn't have anybody for me. We just got an army of people who, um, and many women, who left their kitchens to go out and go door-to-door and to put yard signs up for me," the Republican presidential candidate said Monday, describing moments from his early career in the 1970s, during a town hall in Fairfax, Virginia.
A metric shit ton of women are really pissed off about his "coming out of the kitchen" comment and it is exploding around campus. Especially with Fairfax already being a highly liberal area in Virginia.
It wasn't much to begin with.
Rip the last respectable candidate in this race, or was respectable. For a Republican.
I thought he dropped out already :v:
Silly for people to get upset over this, he even said it was different time.
In the big picture, this is great for the GOP. The only chance at beating Trump is to get as many people as possible drop out and/or lose their support.
I thought he dropped out already :v:
Did Cruz tell you that?
well damn, kasich was the last not-completely-insane republican candidate
I like how everyone mildly was okay with him until this one comment he made, now he's lopped into the rest of the GOP as godless barbarians :v:
I like how everyone mildly was okay with him until this one comment he made, now he's lopped into the rest of the GOP as godless barbarians :v:
I'm still okay with him, but for some people this would actually remove all respect they had for the poor guy :v:.
The 70s really where different than now, his "out of the kitchen" comment isn't totally out of line when you think about how it was for women in the 70s.
Rip the last respectable candidate in this race, or was respectable. For a Republican.
As an Ohioan, he's probably the shittiest in the whole race, fyi.

How could he possibly be worse than Trump, Cruz, and Carson?
The 70s really where different than now, his "out of the kitchen" comment isn't totally out of line when you think about how it was for women in the 70s.
In fact, if you look at it as him describing how it was at the time, and don't jump to any conclusions that he currently thinks women should spend their days in their kitchens, he's honouring the women who empowered themselves to campaign for him back in that time. And is getting shit on for it in this any-excuse-to-be-offended culture we're in.
It's not an incredibly powerful or elaborate tribute, but he could've just as easily not mentioned them and erased the actions of those women. And the public response is that he's unelectable.
America you scare me.
How could he possibly be worse than Trump, Cruz, and Carson?
I was probably exaggerating, but...
Live in Ohio. It sucks.
He's ripped something like $50+million from schools and diverting that $ for other things so his budget could appear to be balanced ... But yet he is running on how well his state is doing. Our schools have some of the worst track records now, and before he took office they were on par or better than the averages.
Our state has a few big industries - two of them are coal mining and oil fracking. Instead of allowing investments into future renewables, he opts to pass legislation against it ... Which is super smart bc ... You know ... Fossil fuels last forever, right?
My city made national news because of water issues (no not the most recent ones - last year). These water issues were the direct result of this man. He can only side with industries - it's been his shtick since he's been in office. Since agriculture is a huge thing here as well, instead of making concessions and allowing bills to pass that would put very fair (and ethically right) restrictions on farmers in regards to using certain fertilizers in more controlled ways, he instead actively voted against and/or vetoed all legislation. This caused Lake Erie to massively produce algal blooms which poisoned our drinking water.
… and yet the majority of Ohio thinks this idiot is a saint and has done absolutely no wrong!!
He also completely banned subway systems and eco-system friendly trains, and shot down a human rights bill for trans people.
Yeah okay this guy sounds like a total dickhead.
:snip:
I take back everything I said. :vs:

You made me curious. So I took a look at Ohio test scores, and it seems like they are massively better than they were in the past.

Grade 8 results are better across the board as well.

Yep let's trust some nobody on Reddit with no supports to his claim
he hasn't murdered shit
his campaign has survived when the campaigns people have been talking about since 2012 have not
I thought he dropped out already :v:
he's waiting for ohio, though i doubt he will do anything spectacular here, he's been at best an OK gov, though his obsession with defending the state's marriage ban and his ability to overlook the outright illegal way they slipped abortion bans into the state's budget make him not much better than ted strictland who he replaced
[editline]22nd February 2016[/editline]
how can you be fiscally conservative, and waste tens of millions in legal fees defending a ban that ultimately wasn't worth it.

he's been good to schools, but thats because the guy he replaced was slashing and burning schools and was an idiot, strictland actually thought OHIO didn't need snow days.....which was a big fucking deal
he didn't though achieve all his goals with schools, he wanted to strip collective bargaining rights but Ohio's teachers union is much tougher than wisconsin's and he wanted to build a bigger charter system which again wasn't achieved.
[editline]22nd February 2016[/editline]
For anyone wondering why he has a good reputation in ohio, its because we have had a lot of stereotypical BAD democrats for a while (dennis kucinich, ted strictland, every mayor of cleveland), and while Kasich has been pretty much bland, he hasn't pissed off people often enough to really get any bad reputation
I like how everyone mildly was okay with him until this one comment he made, now he's lopped into the rest of the GOP as godless barbarians :v:
even with this comment he is still by far the least shitty republican in the race
its not like Kasich was somehow a paragon of women before he said this: all the republican candidates are (or claim to be) pro-life
all but one are against Planned Parenthood

This is 40 years later, you have to change with the times if you want to run for president come on now. You need to know what to say and what not to say.

With the water issue I assume he's talking about Toledo. It's a bit tough to push all the blame on him as our wonderful local government gave a lot of money to the water processing company to upgrade the filters that just kind of disappeared. Meanwhile Oregon Ohio, which gets their water literally right next to the city, didn't have any issues with the water because they have up to date filtration. Luckily at the time the Oregon fire department had set up out of all their stations an area where people could fill up water containers for free to use in the city.

i don't think he was implying women were coming out of kitchens today, but it was a poor choice of words since the 70s were the exact time that women were fighting to be recognized as existing outside the kitchen

That's what I mean. He should know how to word everything he says. It's crucial if you're trying to become the leader of a country. It's something every candidate has to realize.
I'm willing to accept that it was just a poor choice of words, or maybe it wasn't I really don't know. Point is, it's absolutely vital that you understand who you're talking to and what they want to hear. He said (or worded if there was a misunderstanding) the blatantly wrong thing, and if he meant nothing by it that's a shame, but he should have known better regardless.

Eh it's not like kasich was ever going to win anyways, the big money has gone to rubio and Cruz, and the Republicans hardly have a grass roots movement large enough to really sustain him. He's gonna hold out till March 15th then broker for some position in Washington before he throws in the towel.
The 70s really where different than now, his "out of the kitchen" comment isn't totally out of line when you think about how it was for women in the 70s.
This is the one point everyone loves to ignore.
I hope Kasich continues his campaign if for no other reason than keeping Rubio far away from the presidency.
