• How big is too big for university

so I want to buy a laptop for university , I'm going to get the mac book pro but I don't know what size I should get. My mom has the 15 inch and its great and all, probably the smallest I would ever go though. I have my eye out for the 17 inch . I'm going into engineering/AutoCad (also light coding) , do you even need a laptop the first year ? or second for that matter ? would 17inch fit on those lil desks and all that stuff that I haven't even thought of yet. if you guys need any extra info please ask, also I'm getting a mac , it truly is superior in design and I have the money so please no trash talk (I do all my gaming on my desktop .... lol gaming in engineering school that's pretty funny ) (User was banned for this post ("Missed the Apple subforum." - cosmic duck))
17" will fit on your desks but it's whether you want to have to lug it around with you everywhere you go which is more of an issue. My personal recommendation would be to get the smallest notebook with the performance you require, and then buy an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. That way you have the portability (surely you can live without a sizable screen just while you're in class/lectures) and when you get back to your dorm/whatever you have yourself a huge ass desktop essentially. Really though, you don't need a laptop. As long as you have a computer of some sort capable of running the software you need for your engineering classes and a printer, you should be set. I have a laptop but personally have not taken it out of my dorm. (By the way I'm an engineering student, and I must say engineers do party the hardest :D, i.e. you should be out drinking and getting laid, not gaming ;) )
I would actually say get the 13inch Macbook pro. It's quite powerful, the battery is decent and portability is a huge plus at uni. Maybe you can hook it up to a external monitor when you get back home.
okay, So school laptop stricly for school , that's fine. now , just as a laptop (browsing the web , mostly ( just a fan boy , bite me =p) will the 15 inch be enough ? keep in mind that my desktop is a 30 inch with a 17 inch on the side ... It's soo nice to have screen space.
