Right, speccing a little linux box for home server use. Single core performance is a priority, have a ganders.
(Space is a factor too, no; I don't want a NAS.)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 110 USB3.0 Mini-ITX Case (Not bad?, guess I'll find out.)
Mobo: Asus H81I-PLUS H81 Socket 1150 (Been using H81 boards from asus for customer builds, nearly a year of building with them. Not a single issue.)
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core G3258 3.2GHz Socket 1150 (Again, single core performance looks good for the price, crank it up when needed.)
PSU: Corsair CXM 430W Semi Modular 80+ Bronze (Does what is says on the tin, hue hue.)
RAM: 2x4GB 1600MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM HyperX Fury Series (Again, does what it says on the tin.)
Storage:
2x Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300 (Cheap, OS drive. Software RAID1)
1x 2TB storage drive -(Later on when I start storing shizzle, not planing on it yet.)
Works out at £320.
When I move on from this 4770k that I have in my main machine; I'll drop it right in to this box.
Thoughts?
What applications are you using that require high single core performance? I mean it looks great except from that you'll need to update the bios on that H81 asus motherboard (a h97 would avoid this issue) to use a Haswell-Refresh processor if you do stick with that motherboard.
As I said it looks great, power supply could be better like a Seasonic or an EVGA one but other then that, that's pretty rock solid for what it is.
I run a lot of 32 bit applications, got hordes of 1150 CPU's so I can update the bios if I have too (Spare pentiums, shit box celerons etc). All ready got all the Asus H81 BIOS's stored on a flash drive, I would use a better PSU like you said BUT... Price. Trying to stay around £300 being my target.
If you know of any other decent ITX mobos, around the same price; I'd love to hear any other options.
You don't need to go for high end gaming ram even on a gaming system, just some cheap crucial, corsair or Kingston stuff would be pretty much the same while costing less.
Pretty sure HyperX Fury is Kingston's cheapest line, its only 2-3 euro's away from being the cheapest available 1333 or 1600 mhz ram.

I am curious, why do you want 2 SSDs in Raid1, Just to store an OS on, whats the purpose behind that?

For a small home server that just sounds like a waste of power though.

32 bit doesn't mean single threaded. 32 bit applications can (and do) use just as many cores as the equivalent 64 bit appplications would.
That said, the Pentium will probably be enough for a home server workload, so considering the price it's not a bad choice.

This. Your HDD will be more likely to fail (and more important, I'd say).
Parts arrived, happy days. (Other than the fact that for some reason the other SSD is on a separate delivery :/)
