Rather than pay with real money to get DLC (e.g. new characters), you have the option of acquiring them using in-game currency.
This is pretty big news for the Street Fighter franchise.
Thank fucking god.
That Ken redesign is still god awful.
FIGHT MONEY I love it.
unlocking characters through playing the game whoa totally didn't exist before ever at all it's actually pretty sad that that's the main tagline. Obviously, it's not that they are thinking of anything new or trying to make that much of a deal about it, it's a cool idea, ingame money like that. But we've gotten so far out with asinine DLC that this wouldn't be that big of a deal otherwise. this isn't a special thing outside of the fact that so much is being sold with actual money. this is cooler than the other way of doing it; doing specific actions.

Other than obviously potential low gains on in game currency and much higher prices when using in game currency, I wonder what the catch is. And seriously, its a sad state of affairs when unlocking content through game play is a listed feature, yet people think there is some hidden conspiracy with that.

In vanilla you had to unlock characters regardless of DLC or not which is a nightmare for tournaments and people who just want to play the character. All the characters that come with the game will be usable day 1, the DLC ones are either buy or unlock. There's always that one guy who doesn't read the article and jumps to conclusions.
hmmmm i smell bullshit i just can't imagine any reality where suits hold a meeting and all agree that they in fact DON'T want free money
so league of legends-tier Microtransactions, except you pay 60$ to actually play it first
More like Skullgirls except you can unlock them for free or buy them. League doesn't have a static roster that you keep forever. This system is a lot more fair than buying each new edition, I don't know why there is a protest against it when it is 100% better for the consumer.
It's Capcom, there must be a catch.
So are there arcade version on this then? If yes, are they going to do that dlc character thing?
It's Capcom, there must be a catch.
The characters will already be on disc :vs:
You can probably still buy packs of the ingame currency to skip the grind, not that I would have an issue with that. Unless it's like, "Win 1000 battles without jumping to unlock x" to encourage spending money instead.
This sounds a lot more ethical, turning "pay to win" into the healthier side-option of "pay to skip the Treadmill of Angbadang".
I don't like expansions either, but I think they're better for SF. Everyone always has access to the same character pool, so the only thing that affects a match is player skill. It's also basically guaranteed to take a long ass time to unlock characters since you can also pay for them.
