ALLOUEZ — Three firefighters suffered what were described as minor injuries on Thursday afternoon as they fought a fire that apparently started in the basement of a 74-unit apartment complex in Allouez.
Most fire crews in Brown County had people or equipment at the scene of the fire at the Hilltop Place Apartments at 3415 Hilltop Way. The building had a common basement and attic and was built without partitions to contain a fire, said Lt. Nick Craig, public information officer with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.
More than four hours later after the fire was reported, smoke could be seen pouring into the sky from a distance. Flames flared up in the central part of the building several times throughout the afternoon.
Living in the area, when I got released from school you could both smell and see the smoke coming from the complex, as the article said. It was actually kind of weird, seeing as how nothing seems to happen here.
ALLOUEZ - We have been following breaking news out of Allouez for much of the day. Firefighters are still on the scene right now of a fire in an apartment building.
Crews arrived on scene around 11:30 Thursday morning.
And a few of those firefighters were hurt fighting a fire that just won't go out. And now those who lived in any of the roughly 75 apartments are figuring out where they are going to stay tonight and how will they replace what they've lost.
Hey that's near me. I've never seen anything like this before at least in my area.

Apparently the apartment complex its self is a block long and 10 local area fire departments are on the scene.
