The United States military will likely show its benevolence toward the Guantanamo Bay detainees it's holding in perpetuity and will only force-feed the hunger strikers at night out of respect for Ramadan. Currently 106 of the 166 detainees are on hunger strike, and 44 of them are twice daily strapped into a chair while a tube is threaded through their noses into their stomachs to prevent them from escaping detention through suicide.
I like the way they phrased that, "to prevent them from escaping detention through suicide." It feels like it was written by a school principal.
"You will not get out of this detention even if you kill yourself! I'm calling your parents, young man!"

It's just such a funny concept to me, that someone would go "well the rest of this is fine but I don't really want to serve my sentence better slowly starve to death" as a reason to do so.
I find it hilarious that they abuse every kind of human right possible, yet respect this one little thing.
It's like beating the shit out of a guy, then apologizing for one of the dozen hits you gave to his stomach.
How come this hasn't been shut down like you promised Obama?
It's just a feel-good gesture to feign compassion for detainees. Gitmo brazenly ignores the US Constitution and Hague/Geneva Conventions yet some how manages to be in compliance with Ramadan guidelines.
Saw 'Gitmo detainees to be' on the front page and foolishly assumed good news
Wow this really shows that my government truly cares for every one's cultures.
Oh god, the US is so respectful. They ignore all human rights but lets praise em for this!
I can't believe my friend joined the navy and gets stationed in Gitmo, hope all goes well for her.
I've moved your torture from 4pm to 11pm
you're welcome you ingrate

I would rather hope well for the detainees, your sis will be fine.

Because only a minority of people cares for the rights of terrorists.

Most of them are not terrorists, since there hasn't been trials it's the kidnapping of brown people.
They most likely hate america now tho.

I mean that the majority of the public thinks that they are terrorists and thus deserve no rights
yep let's just strip people of their human rights, because after all they are terrorists!

I doubt he has a "CLOSE GITMO"-button in his office. As someone pointed out it's likely hard for Obama to get much support for that because many of those he'd have to work with to solve the issue simply think the detainees are terrorists who deserve no rights.

That's hell right there if I've ever seen it.
"We're gonna force food down your throath at night out of respect for your religion ok???"
"wow that's too kind i appreciate it"
One of these days a nuclear device will detonate in a major american city and when the dust settles a youtube video will pop up from some islamic sect that will blame the massacre of millions on the torture of less than 50 people.
America has trouble understanding that the best way to get out of someone's books is to quit fucking with their people because they know no governing body will stop them.

"Well boys we got suspect numero uno..."
"Did you just say numero uno!? You one of them 'legals! Git 'em!"

Which will only serve to create more support for doing anything to stop terrorist, repeating the cycle.

The US has always had a problem with living up to its ideals. Imperialism, slavery, genocide, limited freedom, etc.
They've used torture in every single war they've been involved in. I'm surprised about this actually. You would think stripping of them of their religion would be the main thing but no, they even let them have a Koran.

Finland.
We actually treted our war prisoners with respect.
just 'murica being 'murica.
can you name a country that hasn't?
"Guys, everyone does it so it's okay. Really guys, everyone does it. Guys?"
Can you name another country that HAS? There's no accounting for government secrets, of course, but no other first world country so brazenly has a prison dedicated to holding and tortuing people without trial.
I still can't get over how Gitmo is still a thing.
Does the US government just ignore its existence?

Yeah but the majority of the public are so retarded they have difficulty remembering to breath.

Yeah that's not really gonna help with the whole, "Torturing suspected terrorists is okay," argument.
