CPU running at extreme temps. Affecting performance

Hey there.
After moving into a new house (with carpeting, must I mention in case this can be a cause), my CPU has had temperatures at 60C idle and can go up to 105C while just sitting at the title screen of Minecraft.
The only thing I have done to my computer was installing my new graphics card (stock Nvidia GTS 450). After complaining about performance and reinstalling my old graphics card, I still got the same performance, so it wasn't my new card. I looked at my cpu temps and was shocked:
Idle

I've already gotten at all of the dust with a can of air but still nothing. My heatsink is stock that came with my processor.

I was going to say dust, but you already covered that.
Is there anything behind the fan that might reduce airflow?
My PC did the exact thing and it turned out to be the CPU fan failing. Does it look to be running at full speed?
Try reapplying thermal paste, then as temporary fix you can downclock your CPU speeds in order to keep them cool.

Not really...
Do you use the Intel stock fan? You could always doublecheck that it's mounted correctly.
The problem is Minecraft, not your hardware.
Minecraft is a shoddily coded piece of shit. The reason that both your CPU and GPU are overheating when running minecraft is because minecraft has no built-in throttling mechanisms and screams at both the CPU and GPU to run at 100% torturous loads at all times, even when idle on the menu screen.
There is no fix for this, other than using OptiFines' mod to forcibly limit the maximum framerate that minecraft is allowed to render.

After you install that mod, go into video settings and change "performance" to either "balanced" or "power-saver" to limit your frame rate to 120 or 40 fps. This will decrease your GPU's load to hover between 25-50%, but the CPU is still going to be thoroughly destroyed. I'd recommend an aftermarket cooler.

I think you missed the fact that his CPU is running at 60 degrees on idle. That's bad enought.

Uhuh, right.
My Phenom X4, stock cooler, and HP's skimpy thermal paste, runs at a max of 110F (forgot what in C) while at Minecraft's title screen, no matter the screen size or setting.
I don't think that's the case. Garry's Mod makes it heat up more then Minecraft ever has.
But sometimes I think it's on a case-by-case basis, and isn't the same for everyone.
So insulting Minecraft in such a way isn't completely necessary, but yes, I will agree with your suggestion. OptiFine does help, I use it for this netbook and it works wonders.
And more thermal paste may help.

Can't tell if this is supposed to be sarcasm or not. If you don't believe me, look at the GPU load meter while MC is open (ATI has one in CCC).

Gmod is a primarily CPU bound game. Minecraft is horribly inefficient, but it favors the GPU a tad more than the CPU. He could have bad thermal paste, or a severe dust problem, but MC is definitely exacerbating the problem.

Everyone knows MC is a sloppily coded pile of shit, I never said it was a bad game.
Move that computer to another room and check the temps with another program. Try this or if you built this computer, try the software that comes with it. With the information you posted, I think your best bet would be to buy a new fan. Could you take a few pictures of the inside of your case? That might help us a bit.
replace thermal paste
NOW
Also bohb, even under the highest loads, the CPU cooler should keep it cool no matter what.

Solid idea in theory, not so much in implementation. Stock Intel coolers are terrible in not being able to cool properly, and more than a pain in the ass to mount properly.

Yeah, stock intel heatsinks suck, but they should still cool the CPU.
