Current price is about $429.08. Can you help? There might be an Intel based system (e5500?) that's cheaper, and probably lots of money to be saved on the GPU - I'm not that great with them. I'd also like to see a different monitor that's lower resolution (720p) since it isn't a beastly computer and won't be able to run well at that high of a resolution, but speakers were a request, and that monitor has them.
What's an iFaux? I would normally think hackintosh, but you seem to be gunning for Windows. Also, by everything in your needs, do you mean an OS too?
So basically you want a workstation computer?

I think he's talking about this iFaux.
It's a person. He said he didn't need an OS.
Why are you posting instead of him?
I'm selecting the parts for him. Is anyone going to help?
This GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131381&cm_re=4830-_-14-131-381-_-Product
This PSU should power it, but barely: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371003&cm_re=Anteq_basiq-_-17-371-003-_-Product

I would get this if I were you or iFaux, though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371023&cm_re=antec_basiq-_-17-371-023-_-Product
So you choose a more expensive PSU that has less wattage because it's Antec? I've never understood peoples obsession with PSU's. I understand if your systems expensive, but this is on a very tight budget. The GPU looks great, though, I was looking for that one - I think you posted it in my $250 thread.

When it comes to PSUs you have to resort to fanboyism. If you can fetch some 30$ from somewhere, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016&cm_re=ocz_modxstream-_-17-341-016-_-Product

uh yeah he did because sunbeam's are shit
they're not brands they're manufacturers, when you're talking about the thing that will deliver power to the rest of your components the last thing you want to use is the cheapest piece of shit you can find because you're putting the rest of your components at risk
I understand the quality is definitely worse than Antec and such; but it wouldn't be sold if it were that bad. How exactly could it ruin your PC?
[editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
Brand is also a fine term.
[editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
I don't see it likely to break anything, it may fail after a short time, but it's likely not going to ruin anything.
It's possible for it to give too high voltage to the components when it fails, which will fry them.

shitty quality PSUs put other components at risk, this is widely known
does this look like something you want to expose $435 worth of components to? a half decent PSU isn't a luxury it's a safety precaution
I don't think that anything on Newegg would do as bad as those. You try building a PC with a $360 budget; it's not that easy. I guess it would be better to give him a quality PSU since it's his first build and it would suck to get DOA stuff, or anything breaking, with your first build, but the budget's pretty tight and I'd like to get as much performance as I can with it.

You'd be surprised...
Also.
It can ruin it by sending a power surge through all your Hardware as a final "fuck you."

they sell them because there are people out there dumb enough to buy them, they're there to make a profit which they won't get if they limit selection to the best of the best
I've experienced bad PSUs before, the shitty OEM PSU that came in my prebuilt suddenly decided to die after I unplugged a fan, so I know first hand how annoying it is to have to wait for a replacement just to use your PC , and while PSUs aren't the hardest thing to install it's annoying to go through the process more times than necessary
I'm not saying spend a shit ton on one part, I'm just saying don't get cheap shit because the shit is cheap for a reason
I still don't think the failure rate is as bad as that video shows, with any Newegg PSU. I still went with a Rosewill Stallion and Case in a combo deal; and it's actually not much more, so thanks for pushing me to do it.
I'd still buy one for myself, though. I've only had good experiences with the cheap stuff.
Many PSU companies don't actually make their own PSUs, they rebrand other companies' PSUs.
The trick then is to know which companies rebrand the best quality PSUs. Antec does this, for the most part, this is why a lot of people like them.
I'd suggest buying as much as you can in combos to save cash, not buying a $20 PSU to save cash. You could get a 400W Antec Neo Eco for $45 plus tax w/free shipping and that's not counting mail in rebate. That will be more than enough for a system like this.
Get only 2gb ram. That'll save the cash for the better PSU and you can always add more ram later.
Updated the OP. Definitely the best it's going to get.
2GB DDR3 RAM
4830 GPU
AMD Athlon II X3 450 Rana 3.2GHz CPU
Great CPU, 2GB DDR3 RAM, can upgrade to 4 GB in the future if you want to, same with GPU.
[editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
Should I do 2x1 GB or 1x2 GB - First is faster because of dual channel, but with the second one you could just buy another stick of RAM to upgrade to 2GB.

lol
and i appreciate any help guys :buddy:
I just want to verify with everyone: this will run TF2 maxed (maybe not AA or AF) at 1600 x 900?

Nice, your spending your friends money on a crap rosewill stallion.
"Oh sorry about the fried comp bro, I told you to get a shit PSU... my bad"
[editline]11th December 2010[/editline]
Also, I think your friend should ask the questions for himself since it is his money and he has direct access to facepunch.
He's not quite my friend, and there's nothing wrong with a stallion PSU.
If you do not care for him as a friend, why are you doing something a friend would do. Also, Rosewill PSUs are not known for reliability, and for actually outputting the "rated" wattage. Get something decent, It is the part you do not want to cut corners on. Get a seasonic or a corsair, maybe even a Silverstone or FSP. Tbh, Rosewills Stallion, made by Solytech.... is complete crap that should not be touched by human hands.

well i have no idea what i'm doing so uhhh.
anyways since you seem to think that the PSU is bad, if you can manage to get a better PSU within the $450 budget without reducing how well it'll play, for example TF2, at medium at an absolute minimum go ahead!

That will run it maxed out, if you still have your case and optical drive, it will put you at $423 USD. If not, $460 USD for case and optical drive.
[editline]12th December 2010[/editline]
Infact, you will be able to run crysis at very high settings on that build and it should preform fine?
Why are you getting him such a crappy case, and you forgot the KB, Mouse, and you are $90 over budget. And I've never heard of Silverstone, but that doesn't mean much. It also has the same exact Newegg rating as the Rosewill, and costs more (Again, not that it means much - but obviously purchasers are just as satisfied). You also didn't get much performance out of the extra $150 you spent.

I need absolutely everything. Keyboard, mouse, speakers, optical drive, case. And I just ordered a monitor for $90, so the total budget now is $360.
[editline]Edit:[/editline]
oh god the case
Your monitor has speakers.
