A 7th-grade student in Virginia Beach, Va., suspended from school for shooting an airsoft gun in his front yard will find out on Monday if he is expelled for the rest of the year, a local television station reported.
Khalid Caraballo, 13, and some friends were playing with airsoft guns on his front lawn as they waited for the bus one morning, WAVY first reported. Airsoft guns are non-lethal replica firearms that fire plastic pellets by way of spring-driven pistons.
A concerned neighbor called 911 to report the incident.

This has got to be a joke or some satirical piece.

What´s next? Getting no job because you play Grand Theft Auto?
very smart thinking on part of the school to stop a dangerous school shooting before it happened
it's very fortunate indeed that concerned neighbor spoke up when they did, otherwise who knows how many innocent children might have been slaughtered by this gun-toting monster!
One of the neighbours called in to report the kid aiming a gun, and stated that she knew it wasn't real? Are you serious?
That's quite retarded.

"yes hello? there's a kid shooting rubber bands at a wall, please send help!"
This is beyond retarded, what the actual fuck
Eventually you gonna do this

and end up kicked out of school.
What. WHAT. There are no words that I can use to describe my anger. And any Image that could possibly get close to describing it is banworthy. No School should EVER suspend a kid for doing something in their own property unless it's a crime on the level of murder.

I really hope they don't do it.
I could understand if the kid shot it at school after the kids, and the kids have said no, but this is just stupid.
“He is pointing the gun, and it looks like there’s a target in a tree in his front yard,” she told the dispatcher. “This is not a real one, but it makes people uncomfortable. I know that it makes me [uncomfortable], as a mom, to see a boy pointing a gun.”
Of course it was a mother complaining.
He's a fucking idiot for airsofting in his front yard in the first place.
If you're going to airsoft do it in your back yard or at least get permission from your neighbours to do it and make sure they're comfortable with it.
You wouldn't see an airsofter here in the UK dare do it in their front garden.
kick that principle or whoever causes this mess out of the building and fire his/her ass for lack of common sense and abuse of power. Ain't no room for this bullshit...

I actually got sent to the Principal's office in Elementary School for making handgun gestures at people passing by while I was sitting just outside of the classroom, once.
I wonder if this mother would have still called 911 if the kid was firing a Nerf gun?

He needs to get permission from his neighbors to play in this front yard? What the fuck?
He's a kid playing with some 20 dollar, single shot, hand spring gun in his front yard. Shooting at a target.
Damn kids these days. How dare they have any fun.

i once got in trouble for pretending a stick was a gun
its ridiculous
guys we have to do this to protect our freedom
At this point, I'd pull my kid from school and homeschool him, or take him to another district. Either one.
Wouldn't stand for the expulsion at all. As for the lady that called it in; she shouldn't be allowed to call 911 ever again. What a gross misuse of the service.

Uh. I'm always in my front garden using my gas blowback weapons.

Already happens in the US, not with just hand gestures either. Hello Kitty toys that shoot bubbles, and a chicken nugget in another case, a poptart in another.
Too many flakey Americans now days. Oh, 911? Please send the police, there's boys pointing guns at each other in their yard. What? No they aren't real guns they're toys, send help anyway. Now the school's involved and saying Oh no, we're expelling you. Where the fuck are the nuts in this country? Doesn't anyone have a spine or common sense anymore?

Depends on where you live, really.
A similar thing happened when I was ~16 - couple of friends and myself were having a light game of airsoft in my friend's back garden, some retired old man who used to be in the army called the police.
Armed response unit was half way there when the local police realised it was airsoft.

yes you would
Depends on where you live, really.
I guess.
To be honest where I live isn't exactly a great area, full of crime and less than desirable youth. No idea if that plays into it at all. But I've never had a problem when I'm firing my airsoft weapons in my front garden and someone walks by.
Can't they know the fucking difference between a handgun and a fucking greenish brown plastic gun toy?
Jesus Christ theres no reason for calling 911 for that kind of shit
Uh. I'm always in my front garden using my gas blowback weapons.

yes you would
Then you should know better. You should already be aware that wielding imitation firearms in public is an offence under the Firearms Act 1968 (offence to carry firearm in public place) and the definition of firearm was expanded in the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003 to include Imitation Firearms which was later further defined in the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006.
Just because you're in your front garden does not mean a member of the public will not see you and call the police, and if the police get called and you don't have a two tone you're going to have to produce your Site Membership details so they can confirm your UKARA.
And if you can't then you're going to be in trouble.
