My grandmother is coming over in two weeks from South Africa to visit. She's a strict Christian and is probably against homosexuality, sex before marriage, etc. In my opinion, if two people love each other, then it's wrong to stop them from being bonded in life through marriage. Sex AFTER (woops, just noticed this mistake) marriage is, in my opinion, an archaic practice that stemmed from centuries of patriarchal beliefs that placed a woman's value on her "purity". Not that I'm promoting promiscuity, but sex with someone you love isn't wrong. Anyway, I began to research this topic to try and understand and build up an argument and came across these videos. It's probably late, but what ever. Search is still disabled. And I haven't heard about this at all in Australia- I have the feeling it's late but I need to vent a little. Also, this makes me sick to my core. There's a mini-documentary, in 8 parts, about the Westboro Baptist Church. Initial information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church Part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOrz5k0jWdU&feature=related Part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCSshfI_ZlY&feature=related Part three: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdGE5GxP2nc&feature=related Part four: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayVFHMn6Y6w&feature=related Part five: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjAOsgu45Oo&feature=related Part six: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv4ejurj1XY&feature=related Part seven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkIgoKClCfg&feature=related Part eight: I CAN'T FIND IT. Sorry. Anyway, there are so many Youtube videos on this. For once, I agree with Fox news in the next two interviews. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7Frq30soPc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJasKGNftFo Also, she has brainwashed her kids. OH MY GOSH, THEY SHOULD PUT THIS IN TRUE BLOOD. Wait, they already have. I should probably add that I don't know if I'm a Christian or not- I don't follow the Bible relentlessly, I'm a strong believer in the Darwin-Wallace theory of evolution (and science in general), but I based my values on the good values of Christianity (Thou shalt not kill, Love thy neighbor, etc). I believe that other people have the right to follow their own religions and that they won't burn in hell for it. I think Buddhists are awesome. The Qu'Ran on the other hand.. Generation Y :v: If I'm not the only one who was incredibly angry after this, then here's some comedic relief. My puppy, Charlie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0wIw-aVzbo Edit: I think I may have some level of Clairvoyance. He came out yesterday to my other brother and I.
I agree about the westboro. It's more like a ranting community then a church really.
But god is a fag himself.
Doesn't the bible preach tolerance against all?

Don't try and argue with the ultra-strict christian types. It never works. They'll just say something like 'BUT THE BIBLE SAYS IT DOES' or something.
I know Christians who say the Bible must be true because the Bible says it's true. :geno:
I know Christians who say the Bible must be true because the Bible says it's true. :geno:
Most Christians say that. They're just completely brainwashed. It's fine with me if you believe in god, but it stops being ok with me when they completely close their minds. Most of them are incredibly close-minded and they don't want to listen to any anti-jesus arguments that you have.
Christianity isn't all bad, though. Some of the teachings in the Bible, especially "Proverbs" are very wise advice to follow. And it teaches people to treat each other as you would want to be treated, which is always a good thing. Also, why are you aiming to get into an argument with her straight away? If she doesn't mention it, don't bring up the subject. It'll just cause family problems.
Doesn't the bible preach tolerance against all?
Yes, then it'll tell you to go around killing people. Typical. One of the many reasons I'm not a believer. Go look up Leviticus Chapter 20 ... and find out about all the people you have to kill for god. To make this even more on topic, homosexuals are on the list of people you gotta kill.

God kinda says it himself that he loves every human being as they are. And he is the creator, what logical reason does he have to hate his own creations when he as stated above has said he loves every one of his creations?
Christianity is full of circular logic.

It says that final judgement will be made by god, and god alone. Basically, if you're gay, you're fucked when the rapture comes. "Thou shalt not commit murder" still applies to everyone - Love everyone and leave judgement/retribution to God. (I'm not Christian, by the way - I'm just open minded about all religion)

In the New Testament there are many parts where it says that the old law is to be overwritten with the new law. These people seem to miss one of the biggest message of the Bible, namely "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
Most sects of Christianity don't follow the Old Testament, IIRC.
Doesn't matter, the bible, OT and NT are and were teachings of the lord. So god used to be prejudice?
Shows how little you know about the bible. It says that final judgement will be made by god, and god alone. "It says that final judgement will be made by god, and god alone. Basically, if you're gay, you're fucked when the rapture comes." Yeah, then it goes off saying something else. That's what I mean, it's full of contradictions.

How can god hate fags if he does not exist. EDIT: I'm sorry but I fail to see how there can be a higher ominous being sitting watching us, and it hardly seems fair that we are punished to damnation just because we do not believe his prescence, and the only evidence of his existence is a large thousand-page fictional book written by a bunch of superstitional bigots. Sorry if I offend people with this, but it is my opinion and I will keep it this way.
Nothing wrong with reading the Bible and following some of the morals it teaches(love thy neighbor, tolerance) But believing all of the insane little stories like a global flood and the tree of knowledge is different.
The Bible is just a continuance in generations of stories from the beginning of literature. When you take an ancient literature class (if you haven't already) you will read many tales stemming from the same values -- even the great flood. Just read The Epic of Gilgamesh to prove the flood is not the Bible's creation.

In fact, just look into Sumerian literature if you would like to see the real similarities the Bible has taken from it.

(Leviticus 18, 29) "For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people" I'm pretty sure that by that it means that you have commited a mortal sin, and for that you will be seen as a monster by everyone around you - People would avoid you, certainly, and you would no longer be considered "Human" as far as the soul goes. However, it does not state that it is within your right to kill these "Abominations" - That still lies with God to decide. It's harsh, yes, but as with most of the Bible it should be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, this is the book that also teaches to "Forgive your neighbour seven times seventy-seven times"
Cheapest and easiest way to counter a WBC protest I see.
More like the only way. Ever seen shows where a host just tries to question a single persons beliefs? They really block out everything and just replies with the same shit over and over again. Thing is they think of themselves as people spreading out the true message and are trying to help people to avoid going to hell. They have no intention whatsoever to change their beliefs, because then they're going to hell too for being naive and stupid and going against the words of God. We're talking about extreme christians of course.
I don't see how god would hate homosexuals if "god" is the one who made us that way in the first place. It's like having a son and naming him Dave and then hating him for having the name Dave. (Bad example, but you get the point.)
Probably been said, but the "Good values of Christianity" is common sense written down.
There's no need for hate on gays, not in this day and age.
Doesn't the bible preach tolerance against all?
This is a big finger up every christian's ass. If we think about it, theres alot of contradictions in the bible. It doesn't promotes violence or death or racism towards other religions or beliefs, but it does or has done the exact contrary to that through the ages. In short: Religion = the "next gen console" of the milenium. People will bite and punch everything just to defend it even though it might be the biggest bullshit ever.
BTW I just got through watching part one of the youtube links, how has somebody not shot these retards yet?
