Steve Wozniak states Android will be king of smartphones.
Steve Wozniak, co-founder and shareholder of Apple came out today stating his views on smartphones and where they will be headed. Wozniak says Android will dominate the smartphone market much like Windows did to the PC market.
Wozniak compared what Android is going through to the early days of Windows via an interview with Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf. The smartphone platform is still working on being polished and user satisfcation, as well as being consistant across platforms. One of the major arguements against Android is the fragmentation that is seen across various devices, which includes potential application compatibility issues.
Wozniak goes on to say that while Apple's iOS is currently better, Android phones, themselves, offer more features which in the end cater to users better. The iOS platform, according to the Apple co-founder, is leading in terms of quality but that lack of a wide variety of features will limit the success of the platform. He did stress however that the iPhone, "Has very few weak points. There aren't any real complaints and problems. In terms of quality, the iPhone is leading."
Wozniak also talked about Apple's own smartphone adventure. In 2004 Apple had worked with a well-known Japanese consumer electronics company to develop a revolutionary phone. Specifically, they "wanted something that could amaze the world." The end result however wasn't quite revolutionary enough for Apple, so they shelved the project. Three years later a new attempt at bringing this revolutionary device was deployed on the masses in the form of the iPhone.
Concluding the interview, Wozniak noted that Nokia was "the brand from a previous generation." His suggestion to the Finland company was to introduce a new brand for the younger consumer generation.
From the man who developed the Apple I and Apple II, Android is going to be the dominant platform once they can unify an experience and increase user satisfaction in the same way that Windows took over the PC market. A bold statement, but one that may show tremendous insight to technology and patterns of how brands come to rise.
Didn't really expect this. But it's kind of awesome.
haha wat?
The Woz said this?
that is fucking tits
its also funny that i might get a new Android phone this week or so :v:
Android > iPhone
I want it to be the king, but the general market at the moment (that is everyone not just internet goers) has somewhat acclimatised to iPhones. And even if Android did reach the top and become king, Apple would be the scheming uncle who plans to stab the King in the back.
I can never really find any particular reason to switch from iOS to Android because they both cost around the same and both do similar things albeit both sides having their advantages and disadvantages
Maybe as Wozniak says Android or similar open-platform OSs will power on in the future and overtake iOS, who knows
Wozniac was and still is, and will be a legend in the world of computers.
I appreciate him behing honest and knowledgable unlike the other steve that hasn't changed his turtleneck in 30 years.
Haha!
Words of wisdom from the Wizard of Woz!
Well, we already know Android handsets currently sell more than iPhones. It's just a matter of time before it is majority share, and as it gains more and more share, more and more will be inclined to switch due to the convenience.

The Holy word of the Woz has been passed
He was wrong, Android is already the king of smartphones

As more of a "Power-user" when it comes to electronics, I love the flexibility, customisability and freedom that comes with Android. It's unmatched. However, for an average electronics consumer I can see how the simplicity of iOS can be appreciated.
Woz is 100% correct, I can really see Android dominating the mobile marketplace. It will also allow manufacturers to concentrate on adding new hardware and features to phones rather than faffing around with UI's.
In other news, Apple stock has dropped drastically
I thought that Android based phones already sold a lot more then any other smart phone?
Is everyone at Apple called steve?

WinMo7 is pretty good imho. Unique UI, hardware standards.. and a hopefully, new Smartphone OS.

I'd say WebOS is on Par with Android, just has a way smaller user base so it doesn't have as much stuff for it.
By the way, I need a good Android phone for about 200€. Anyone got a tip?
He was actually misquoted.
Like how all the Android guys are praising him.
Now watch as they all go, "pff, what the fuck does he know anyway?"

Around where I live, it's more like
60% blackberry
20% apple
a few people with samsung phones
a shitload of people with shitty other phones
and then there's me, all alone, with my android.
I'm bidding on an Orange San Francisco now, Android 2.1.

Someday someone has to make a phone like that.

Yep, actually he said quite the contrary.
Apple just wants to come off as less mainstream, so all the cool art majors like their products more.
I'm serious.
Is everyone at Apple called steve?
Didn't both Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs found Apple?

Microsoft has its share of founders called Steve with Ballmer.
