Most of this is drama created purley by the NFL as a marketing tactic. It gets people talking about the NFL and gets them really pissed. Especially because the patriots were hated before this anyways.
The colts did the same thing that game but they "didn't have time measure all the balls" and then it went quiet.

Well Him and Manning are the two guys who pushed and got the NFL to change the rules to let the teams use their own balls in games about 7 or 8 years ago, and ever since then, well you can go and look at every NFL team's fumble rates and see that theirs has been far lower. By a LOT. The Patriots abused this rule big time and it shows. Brady should be barred from football, honestly, since he lobbied to get rules changed so they could cheat

Because the league average of offensive plays per fumble is around 105 since 2010, AKA, Near when the rule change allowing teams to use their own balls came into effect. The rule that Tom Brady of the Patriots helped push to become the rule. And the Patriots average? 187 offensive plays per fumble. 47 more than the next highest
It's a serious offense and it's cheating. It may not seem like 2 PSI difference is worth all the drama, but it is, because it clearly makes a difference
A similar analogy is if a Hockey team lobbied to change a rule so that they could bring their own goal to their games, and then they brought a slightly smaller one to every game

Even the smallest change can hugely turn a game in one team's favor. Deflated balls, resulting in a higher pass success rate, can easily change a game in the favor of the cheater. Just imagine how much backlash there would be in the betting world when their expertly calculated odds were incorrect due to a variable that would assumable be equal for both teams is actually weighted for one team.
Plus it would be different if it was some lower tier team who averages 8-10 every year or something, but this is the fucking Patriots, debatably the single most successful American Major League Sports team in the 21st century so far.
