Since the computer illiterates thread was getting flooded with mice, someone said to make a mouse megathread. If you have a problem with it, :frog: Mice have been around since 1952. They are one of the most popular ways of inputting data to a computer, alongside the keyboard. There are several kinds of mice. Trackballs: These were the first kind of computer mouse. They work by the user manipulating the ball with their hand. The trackball was invented by Tom Cranston and Fred Longstaff as part of the Royal Canadian Navy's DATAR system in 1952. Mechanical Mice: Basically a trackball mouse turned upside down. They work by rolling the ball along a surface, usually a desk. They have an advantage over optical mice in that they can track on any surface, including glass. Optical Mice: Becoming popular in the 1990's, these mice work by tracking the movement of the mouse over a surface with what is essentially a tiny video camera. At first they needed a special mousepad to track their movement. Then they started using higher resolution tracking systems, enabling the mice to be used on many more surfaces, though perfectly smooth surfaces still are impossible to track on, and a mousepad still helps tracking. These mice are far more accurate than a mechanical mouse. Laser Mice: Entering the consumer market in 2004, these are an evolution of optical mice, substituting a small infrared laser diode for the more traditional LED that optical mice use. Usually they are far more accurate than standard optical mice, around a factor of 20. Recently, glass laser, or 'glaser' mice, have been produced, having the same capability as laser mice, but can also be used on glass surfaces with little trouble. Mice megathread go! Ask questions about mice, post your mice, everything.
Currently I am using it feels really nice.
I was gonna make this later tonight too :( Lets hope this doesn't get closed like the laptop one.

Only one I can ever tolerate is my Kensington PilotMouse Optical :h:. Other than that, I need them to be symmetrical.
is that 800 thing on the side a little number display, or is it just a logo?
Display. Also I might add that's it's a very nice mouse. I would like it to go higher than 2000DPI, though.

You have some incorrect information. Laser mice have the potential to be that much more accurate but most high end, traditional optical mice are more accurate. Also, laser mice can track fine on glass, optical mice can't. [editline]18th December 2010[/editline] Not very much content for a megathread, I don't see the need for so many but whatever.
MX 518 end thread Now with less silver dents
My mouse for the past 4 yrs. And yes, I play FPS and any other game on it. It's amazing, won't use any other mouse ever again.
Not very much content for a megathread, I don't see the need for so many but whatever.
Only other content I can really think of to put in is some notable mouse models/manufacturers, if you want I can.
holy fuck i want that
I've already rubbed the Logitech symbol off mine from so much use. Best mouse I have ever had. I say you get it or at least try it out.
Bought my CM Storm Sentinel as a replacement for my MX518 (which still works after 4/5 years) and love it just as much as the MX. To be honest, they feel exactly the same, but I must say I love the software for the CM.
ARGH NINJA'D BY 30 SECONDS I'm currently using the CM Storm Sentinel Advance:
Extremely responsive and you have up to 6 different custom profiles; each having their own light settings, key macros, and 4 different sensitivity settings with independent X and Y axis.

It's has a weight tray so you an adjust it if you prefer a heavier or lighter mouse, and there's a small LCD screen in the mouse which constantly displays your sensitivity setting and has a 30x30 pixel section you can put a custom logo onto.

It comes with an anchor bar that goes in the back of your computer like a video/sound card so you can secure your stuff if you take it to a LAN-party.

Features a 'Rapid Fire Tactical Mode' which lets you click/shoot insanely fast, so if you're using a pistol or semi-automatic weapon you can shoot as fast as a fully automatic.
Technical Specs:
5600 DPS Storm Tactical Twin-Laser Sensor 1000Hz Polling/1ms Response Time Max Speed of 235 Inches Per Second Max Acceleration 50G 1mm Lift-off Distance 5 x 4.5g Weight System
Package includes: Mouse, Driver Disc, Anchor Bar, Weights, and a pack of replacement pads for the mouse. I've been using my mouse for about a year and a half now and it's been sweet, definitely reliable and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a precision mouse that will last a long time. Pretty good purchase for only $50.

Storm Sentinel, ugh. Disgusting.
MX 518. I've had a Diamondback, G9x, G5, Mamba, and others and the MX518 is by far the best. It happens to be the cheapest too. I use 400 DPI and it's perfect. 0 acceleration and it tracks wonderfully. You don't need anything over 1800 DPI, especially considering you just get acceleration which leads to inconsistency...the slight gain in "precision" doesn't mean shit when you have acceleration problems. Where'd you find a black version? Is that a newer revision or just painted/ps?
Razer DeathAdder 3500DPI Edition. I won't be using anything else for a long, long time. Unless I break it.
My mouse for the past 4 yrs. And yes, I play FPS and any other game on it. It's amazing, won't use any other mouse ever again. [img_thumb]http://www.logitech.com/assets/14756/14756.png[/img_thumb]
Step father has it. I offered him my iHome mouse for when I get my Death Adder. His reply: "AND GET RID OF MY BABY?!" Must be people really love these...

I love simplicity when it comes to mice, so I stick to three buttons and a wheel. I'm currently using a simple Microsoft Optical Mouse, pictured below. I also use a Wacom Graphire3 tablet for mouse-related operations, but this isn't a tablet thread.

MX518 1600 DPI (x2) here. Does anyone know the tracking differences of the old 1600 DPI and the new 1800 DPI versions?
