Looks like Apple finds itself in the middle of another trademark dispute over a recently revealed product. iCloud Communications, an Arizona-based computer communications company, filed suit against Apple on Thursday for allegedly infringing on its trademark of the name iCloud. According to court documents posted by The Next Web, iCloud Communications has been using the name iCloud in the "computer and electronic data transmission" space long before Apple revealed its new wireless syncing service on June 6. The company claims that people will now associate iCloud with Apple instead of iCloud Communications -- and that could hurt its business. iCloud Communications is asking Apple to stop using iCloud and destroy "all labels, signs, prints, insignia, letterhead, brochures, business cards, invoices and any other written or recorded material or advertisements" that use its name. In addition the complaint calls for "all profits, gains and advantages obtained from Apple's unlawfulconduct" and "all monetary damages sustained and to be sustained... including lost profits and reasonable royalties." In other words, the company wants a lot of cash from what it says is the largest tech company in the world. iCloud Communications attempts to boost its case by alleging that this isn't the first time Apple has infringed upon others' trademarks. "Although Apple aggressively protects its trademark rights, Apple has a long and well known history of knowingly and willfully treading on the trademark rights of others -- a history which began as early as the 1970s when Apple was first sued for trademark infringement by the Beatles record label, Apple Corp." The documents also mentions other trademark debacles Apple had in the past with McIntosh Labs, Management and Computer Services (MACS), the "Mighty Mouse" cartoon character, iPhone, iPad and iAd. If the past is any indication of how this case will turn out, Apple and iCloud Communications will likely settle out of court. After all, Apple is still using all the names from those other cases.
Sauce I have a feeling that this will be settled out of court as Apply buys the trademark for iCloud. Edit: How is this late? There isn't a thread for this already. And it's 8 hours old!
apple seriously didnt check if icloud was trademarked or something
In other words, the company wants a lot of cash from what it says is the largest tech company in the world.
hah no not even close
apple seriously didnt check if icloud was trademarked or something
Yeah seriously what the fuck.
i hope apple loses the court case
hah no not even close
You'd think pc world would be less biased for Apple. The company just wants to avoid getting raped by apple and having everything they're worked on ruined.
In other words, the company wants a lot of cash from what it says is the largest tech company in the world.

1 Samsung Electronics 2 Hewlett-Packard (HP) 3 Hitachi 4 IBM 5 Sony 6 Toshiba 7 Panasonic 8 Dell 9 Foxconn 10 Nokia Corporation 11 Microsoft Corporation 12 Fujitsu 13 NEC Corporation 14 Apple Inc. 15 Canon Inc. 16 Cisco Systems 17 Intel Corporation
Not even close. list's a bit old, Apple's overtaken microsoft.
Well that list above is no fair. Samsung also makes construction equipment and built the tallest building in the world, i.e. they do more than just high-tech stuff same with others on the list I'm not defending apple in any way by the way, just wanted to point the above out

1 Samsung Electronics (Construction, boats, chemicals, planes, and I think TVs) 2 Hewlett-Packard (HP) 3 Hitachi (TVs) 4 IBM (I thought they were dead) 5 Sony (PS3s, audio equipment, movies, record label, batteries, chemicals) 6 Toshiba (I think TVs) 7 Panasonic (TVs, car stereos) 8 Dell 9 Foxconn (They make shit for everyone else) 10 Nokia Corporation (Phones, started out in the late 1800s) 11 Microsoft Corporation (Overtaken, as stated) 12 Fujitsu 13 NEC Corporation 14 Apple Inc. 15 Canon Inc. 16 Cisco Systems 17 Intel Corporation

I like being contradictory.
How can Sony be number 4 when they lost billions recently?
How can Sony be number 4 when they lost billions recently?
when you read
list's a bit old,
:downs:
They just don't do computer electronics, Apple mostly only focuses on the Phone/computer market, the other companies do a lot of other stuff like TVs and whatnot. so unlike Apple, who can't really span out as much because they've limited themselves to a market (they still make dick loads of money by over charging for their shiny products) other companies like Samsung and Toshiba can get money from lots of sources.
Well how about not using iName for everything? I hope apple wins.
poor apply :(
when you read :downs:
It's kind of funny how he only mentions apple has changed on the list
I like being contradictory.
IBM builds your servers you thick fuck. (In response to the quoted statement that preceded the quote) (User was banned for this post ("Flaming." - Seiteki))
apple seriously didnt check if icloud was trademarked or something
Again. iPad and iPhone come to mind. Hey apple, a judge has told you that you can't just claim ownership to anything with i in the name, stop it and check beforehand.
I like being contradictory.
IBM makes processors for the Wii and Wii U. Also how is that contradictory?
My dad works for IBM, they have huge offices all over the UK. They're mainly focused on R&D, making servers, and consultancy stuff now. For example, companies hire them to rebuild their computer systems, or for some supercomputin'. They're still irrevocably huge though.

Lenovo bought out the ThinkPad brand from IBM.
That almost sounds like they chose that name with the intention of doing this to get some money from Apple.
That almost sounds like they chose that name with the intention of doing this to get some money from Apple.
sounds like a regular name with a i before it before apple even started to think about doing the cloud shit proper
Why do you keep spelling it Apply, is there a joke i'm missing there? Anyway, I hope this turns out well for iCloud, but I'm not confident they can afford a better lawyer than Apple can. We'll see how it plays out. They'll probably settle out-of-court for a pittance iCloud and a change of name for Apple.
IBM makes processors for the Wii and Wii U. Also how is that contradictory?
It's contradictory because I picked that word. :colbert: but seriously I really need to stop trying to use big words late at night. Almost as bad as PUI with me, regardless of whether I'm actually drunk or not.
In other words, the company wants a lot of cash from what it says is the largest tech company in the world.
So, they want money that they would have made if apple didn't start using their trademarked name? Sounds fair to me, source is biased.
iHope Apple loses this case. Not trying to be a Mac vs. PC kind of person here but Apple's been a dick. Especially in court, with all that Samsung bullshit and etc.
It's a legitimate case, Icloud is going to either get a large settlement or Apple's iCloud will become The Apple Cloud
I like being contradictory.
What, why would you think IBM is dead? wow what the hell.
poor apply
