BBC Three is to be dropped from TV schedules and will move online, as part of the BBC's cost-cutting plans.
It means shows such as Don't Tell The Bride and Pramface will only be available through the iPlayer, rather than Freeview, satellite or cable.

Its either family guy or shitty comedy shows trying to be the inbetweeners so I'm not exactly going to miss it.
I thought three was one of the more popular channels though?
Now where will I watch my repeats of Family Guy
Don't forget Russell Howard's Good News, this really does suck
It's a bit of a shame, but it isn't as though BBC3 was any great producer of TV.
It could be worse, we could be losing BBC 4. That'd be bad.
I guess they realised BBC 3's audience is not going to suffer too much from this switch. It would be interesting to see viewing figures for iPlayer vs TV before they do this because I'm guessing it had far higher online viewing due to the younger audience being more competent with the internet. I know I personally watch very little TV on the television.
Now where will I watch my repeats of American dad
Fixed.
BBC 3 was a good channel to have on in the background while I was on the internet.
Thank god.
at least we still have Dave
:cringe:
Why not BBC4? All they have there are extremely specific interest documentaries.
I mean who would miss "Great British Railway Journeys" or "Parks and Recreation"?
oh no not my classic shows such as
sun sex and suspicious parents
and who could forget the amazing
sun sex and suspicious parents in thailand
Now where will I watch my repeats of Family Guy
Most other channels on Sky?
oh no not my classic shows such as
sun sex and suspicious parents
and who could forget the amazing

And let us not forget their hard hitting documentaries such as 'Fuck Off I'm Ginger'
bbc3 is great. yeah nothing ground breaking on it but if im ever bored late night i can whack it on with the knowledge some easy viewing will be on
Actually a pretty good move. For a channel aimed at a younger audience, why not host it online?
oh no not my classic shows such as

And snow, sex and suspicious parents.
They get me so buzzin for Ibiza this year!! pumpeeed

Hey I enjoy watching Michael Portillo travelling around by train at great expense
Seriously though BBC Four's documentaries are fantastic, would be much sadder if they went
I liked BBC3, especially at night.
What will happen to Russell Howards Good News?
On school nights I stick it on on TV because that and E4 are the only comedy channels I get in my bedroom. Now I'm stuck with an episode of Cleveland Show and Bob's Burgers on at 3am.

Parks and Recreation is a US sitcom/mockumentary, not a documentary. It's pretty good once you get past the first season.

Also BBC four is where most of Charlie Brooker's shows end up. I don't think I can live without them.
I imagine some people will be objecting to this on technical grounds, I don't think iPlayer in its current state doesn't even do 720P for live TV channels and even when it is put up to watch its only in that resolution. I imagine many Broadband connections can't sustain a 1080p/1080i resolution and I imagine even if some can it will gobble up about three quarters of their connection and leave little room for anything else.

it was already online + tv but now its only online

Because BBC 3's target audience is 18-34 and most of them watch shows online anyway
Surely most of the channel's budget comes from commissioning and producing the content on it, so the savings from this are going to be minimal?
On top of that, apparently it shares the same bandwidth as CBeebies, hence when that channel goes off air at 7pm, BBC 3 starts broadcasting, so it doesn't actually seem to save money (unless they move BBC 4 to that channel instead, I guess).
BB3 was where i caught my American Dad and Family Guy fix.....is it becoming online that much of a loss except for these 2 shows? i mean people mostly watched BBC3 for the occasional film and repeats of Eastenders, but didn't BBC have weird airing rights, such as only showing their own programming and none of Fox's? chances are people were using iPlayer to catch up on Eastenders...no one is going to give 2 shits about "Sun, Sex and the Parents who paid cameramen for an easy buck", "Sun, Sex: the Sequal"....and their other bad shows.
What are we supposed to watch now when E4 is showing crap like the midnight beast and Balls of Steel Australia whilst waiting for more better things like Bob's Burgers, Big Bang Theory and (possibly?) the Cleveland Show. (even if im aware that it pales far below post-cancelation FG and AD, except for possibly the 'Ratcist' and the first Die Hard episodes).
Plus, didn't BBC have a show similar to Pramface in premise years ago that it bombed? could've sworn that there was another show where some kid gets some other kid pregnant, and has a baby...or maybe im thinking of Pramface, it's British telly so it probably only gets 6 episodes a year, could've been an old season for all i know.
Its either family guy or shitty comedy shows trying to be the inbetweeners so I'm not exactly going to miss it.
But also where four of the BBCs most popular shows started: Little Britain, Torchwood, Being Human and Gavin & Stacy. Without the assistance BBC three gives to up and coming comedians and writers those programs would not exist.
Doing anything to BBC Three is a terrible idea, but of course its going to be targeted as its target audience (16-34) are notorious for being easy to target in any sort of cut because of the lack of standing within any sort of body which can prevent them.
And personally, with the exception of BBC One (and occasionally BBC News) BBC Three is literally the only TV channel I watch through a TV. If it went iPlayer only and I was in a situation where I personally paid for a TV licence I would seriously reconsider it. I cannot be the only person thinking like this so in the long run it could end up causing more financial problems for the BBC than it saves.

BBC 4 IMO could easily be merged into BBC 2, BBC2 has a shocking lack of good things on a lot of the time.
Although the loss of BBC 4 would mean a loss of the almost dedicated Scandinavian crime drama channel. This would be awful.

me.
I stopped watching BBC3 when I realised that I only watched American Dad on it. The only channels I seem to watch now are QUEST and Dave. Both channels chock full of delicious repeats of shows I know not to be bad.
I think I'm in the target age group for BBC3, but not the actual target market.

In that case it won't save money at all (on Freeview anyway, I dunno how its shared on other platforms). Quite a silly move..
