I know stupid question but this is driving me insane! Just updated my gfx card to a GTX 770 OC (Thank you facepunch) and it seems to be running everything great until I get these weird framedrops for example I'm playing Assasins Creed: black flag on ultra on 80 fps then it suddenly goes down to 5-10 fps for a second and back to 80 fps...etc etc is my system bottle necking? GFX: Nvidia 770 OC CPU: i5 2500k HDD: Samsung Evo 1tb ssd Motherboard: Something Something Asus (1 month old) PSU: 700 watt RAM: 8gb for the love god someone please help! Many Thanks facepunch
No, that's not bottlenecking. The game is either loading something, or something installed on your computer is using tremendous amount of resources periodically.

Your whole build is rock solid. Try limiting FPS in games to 60 and make sure you turn off unnecessary background problems.
The term bottlenecking is being used way too often. The first generation of i3's maybe bottlenecks cards like 780's, but even then the throttling is minimal. Disable all background processes that are unnessecary (Skype, Internet browsers etc), Make sure that your desktop is the only thing open on the background when launching the game, and try disabling PhysX.
Get Game booster or put on your assassin's hat and start eliminating system processes that aren't windows/system services. If you're not sure which ones are, restart windows and boot into safe mode, open your process list (take a snapshot), and then compare them to your normal boot and kill everything that's not essential. Try starting assassin's again and you should have a great increase in overall system performance.
