• [Europe]MP3 Player Default Maximum Volume Settings to be Lowered
Train and bus passengers keen not to share the beat of fellow travellers' portable music devices might be happier to hear about a new plan from the EU. A maximum noise default setting will be set on new portable music players, the European Commission has suggested. But the standard decibel setting could be overridden by music fans still keen to turn up the volume. The proposal came after research claimed that one in 10 users could suffer permanent hearing loss. Scientists said those who listened at high volume for more than one hour per day over five years risked permanent harm. Between 50 million and 100 million people may be listening to portable music players on a daily basis, they found. Levels Existing EU standards currently prescribe no maximum sound limit nor require any specific volume labelling on devices. You choose to damage your lungs, just like you choose to blow your ears out. I love having my MP3 on full blast.:buddy:
Yayayaya more EU nanny state bullshit.
Good, it pisses me off when people play things too loud.
Man Europe just loves fucking with their country men.
Fuck you, if i want to listen to my music, i can do so at any volume i like. If it pisses people off that much they should get their own music players. Except for phones Loudspeakers for music on phones should just be out-right banned.
They said the user can disable the feature.
But the standard decibel setting could be overridden by music fans still keen to turn up the volume.
Learn to read you stupid idiots, before jumping to conclusions.
Yayayaya more EU nanny state bullshit.
I think this is great. Having a warning pop up when you go beyond a potentially harmful volume level should be standard already.
I don't see the problem with this, if people can't take care of themselves (which they can't, since it seems that 1 in 10 suffer permanent hearing loss) then limits like this one are needed. Doesn't really bother me, I tend to have mine at a pretty low volume to begin with, yay for noise cancelling earphones! Though it is rather annoying hearing some other dude's music from the other side of the tram or train.

First they don't let us listen to loud music, next thing you know we're living in a COMMUNIST DICTATORSHIP
Listening to music at max volume all the time isn't very good for your ears

Omagadamuhahahahha
Good, there are no downsides to this.
What about my boombox?
In about ten years everyone will be deaf.
This is stupid. There is a big difference in volume for in-ears to headsets. So that, if no option to turn it off, would be really dumb to people who like headsets.
if no option to turn it off
Except there is.
Some devices already have the maximum limit setting until you override it already. It's not really the people with headphones that bother me in public, it's the chavvy cunts that walk around with their mobile phone out blaring music, that shit should be banned.
When this comes into effect it will be hacked so fast it's unbelievable.
Man Europe just loves fucking with their country
Since when was europe a country?
Oh no a warning will pop up god dammit EU how dare you do such a fiendish thing blah blah blahh.
I hate the "it's for your own good" attitude, who the fuck cares if you go deaf it's their choice
When this comes into effect it will be hacked so fast it's unbelievable.
Why you you need to hack it when you can turn it off
You choose to damage your lungs, just like you choose to blow your ears out.
I hear this all the time and from my option that's fucking stupid. Oh hey a great idea! Lets legalize drugs! It's peoples own choise to use them! After a year the system collapses as half of the mandkind are too high on heroin to give a fuck about doing their job. Get the idea? You have to protect people from themselfs. Also they don't know all the risks.
I hate the "it's for your own good" attitude, who the fuck cares if you go deaf it's their choice
It's only a warning. They can choose to ignore it if they want.
hurrah! stops the damn fucks sitting next to me with their music on full blast. want to hear the worst part? THEY ARE LISTING TO DIZZY FUCKING RASCAL
The EU needs to make some way of getting people to actually read the OP, rather than just the title.
