I have about 1200 to spend on a laptop for college and I want to be able to at least run a good amount of basic games (BF:BC2, Starcraft II, New Vegas, etc.) Battery life is a 7-8 out of 10 on the priority scale so anywhere from 5-8 hours would be nice. I have been asking around and doing some looking myself and I was suggested from a macbook (because of the battery life) to building a custom dell laptop on the website. If anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them.
Asus gaming laptops are pretty good.
If your going for battery life, a gaming laptop is not what your looking for.
I don't need it to run everything on high or extreme but I want it to be able to handle about medium and be somewhat decent. Typically I know gaming performance cuts down on battery life and vice versa but I was looking for more so a middle-ground if possible.
My family tasked me with finding laptops for college, and I ended up going with this.

Computers from others brands such as Dell, Lenovo, etc had worse specs for the same price (and in Dell's case, were covered in garish LEDs) and similarly-specced netbooks were more expensive. For the price of an identical Alienware or whatever you could get this and a SSD.
On the other hand, the battery life isn't amazing and it's a bit bulky, but those are common traits among gaming laptops. Besides, most colleges worth their salt will have plenty of outlets in classrooms for students with laptops, so battery life shouldn't be a big deal as long as you have a charger with you, and as long as you have a decent backpack the thing could weigh twenty pounds and it wouldn't be a big deal.

Ooh this one is looking real good. The graphics card is midrange but that's about what I was looking for and the battery life sounds awesome. Thanks dude.
