Im mostly planning to play source games and a few new releases. I spotted this card on sale and i was wondering if it's worth buying.
maplins is terrible for PC hardware http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-179-SP but first what's the rest of your PC specs including power supply

I was just asking as it seemed a good deal to me and i know shit all about GPUs.
My 4850 kicks ass.

Quite honestly, the 4850 is perfect for just about everything. I had one in my old PC, and it ran source and CoD4 on high settings with no lag ever. CS:S, albeit not the most demanding game, ran with 400+ fps (although I capped it at 200). Crysis ran on high with minimal lag, and very high with plenty of lag when shit started blowing up. And considering it's sub-$150 now, you can't really go wrong in my opinion.
Maplins are good with PC hardware as they actually know what they are talking about and yeah, the 4850 is a good card, but maybe get a 4870. But as it's on sale, it wouldn't be a bad idea
Maplins are good with PC hardware
no they're not, they're a general hardware store good for wires and general stuff like that but PC stuff just no, they're awfully overpriced because they don't specialise in it [editline]08:08PM[/editline] and this "sale" brings it down to the average price
I remember seeing a powercolor GTX260 192 core in maplin for £170.
I'm running a 4850 right now, and I love it. Haven't gotten a bit of graphics-related lag since I installed it. Perfect for any game (can play crysis on all high settings) and relatively low-power. I highly reccomend it.
well everyone has their own opinion. Maybe it's your store
well everyone has their own opinion. Maybe it's your store
There's a difference between "opinion," and "logic." You may think that Malpin has good deals, but if you take the time to explore other sites and contrast prices, you will find that they're not the best for PC hardware. I'm not saying all of their products are overpriced, just that they don't have the best deals/rating. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
well everyone has their own opinion. Maybe it's your store
Maplin has shit prices. Whenever I go into PC world or Maplin I facepalm as I walk past the components. It's seriously terrible. This is not opinion. Is is fact. People who buy components from Maplin are newbs. This is not a matter of difference of opinions, it is a matter of you know knowing what you are talking about.
I have a HD4850 and I can play all games
The point is with maplin for me is that they're helpful, you can get the products instantly unlike the other websites and the stuff I've got so far I've had no problems with and I've been going for years. O.k I usually buy components off ebuyer or occasionally overclockers. But maplin is good for other components such as cables
