The men, delegates from the United Arab Emirates, were minding their own business at the Jenadrivah Heritage & Cultural Festival in Riyadh when members of the mutaween suddenly "stormed" the pavilion and removed the men by force.
http://gawker.com/5994825/men-deemed-too-handsome-deported-from-saudi-arabia-for-fear-they-would-be-irresistible-to-women
The fucking religious police in Saudi Arabia reach new heights of retardation. I lived there for six years. Things are not good there for anyone but the ruling elite.
I don't think I would be too upset about this, it's sort of a compliment.
Fix Up Look Sharp went to Saudi Arabia?
That's gonna make for one hell of a cheesy pick-up line.
The mutaween, for anyone wondering, are the aforementioned religious police. They're infamous for things like kidnapping women whom they find outside without their husbands, brothers or fathers, beheading non-muslims caught preaching or practicing their faiths, and advocating for the execution of rape victims by stoning.
Wow lucky that I don't live in saudi arabia
Aviators and scimitars? Hot.
"I'm so handsome that Saudi Arabia deported me to protect its women." Or alternatively, "this ass is so hot it's illegal in at least one country."
Not all of the things the Mutaween do are officially documented - Some people just disappear.
New reality show after an ugly dude gets a makeover they deport him to Saudi Arabia to see if he gets returned
Ohh, right, and they tried to have a woman beaten because the only part that was uncovered, her eyes, were too attractive.
I wanna see what the guys look like. Unless the scimitar men isn't just a placeholder image, in which case Saudis must have poor taste in men
But if the religious police are all men and supposedly straight, how did they know these men were too handsome?

one of the comments on the article "too fly list" :v:
Guess I could never go to Saudi Arabia
Better than being disfigured I guess, because I would not be surprised such a punishment being inflicted in that lovely region.
At least it's sort of equal in a way? I mean the reason that women are covered up is so men won't go lusting after them, so at least they do the same to men a bit too
I lived there for six years.
Were you deported? So is Saudi Arabia full of ugly men?
Were you deported? So is Saudi Arabia full of ugly men?
It's full of men who'd get a raging boner if a woman's veil slipped too far down her nose.
they sound like scum
There are cultural ideologies to be respected, and then there are corrupt establishments of power that rule through barbarism and fear. The heart of Islam, Saudi Arabia, doesn't practice true Islam, and that is sad.
They punish women for being raped and now deport men for being handsome. Sounds like Saudi Arabia is in the closet
It's full of men who'd get a raging boner if a woman's veil slipped too far down her nose.
So you can say bullshit like this about Saudi Arabia but god forbid someone cast India in a bad light
So you can say bullshit like this about Saudi Arabia but god forbid someone cast India in a bad light
Hey, I did live there, I get to crack jokes about it. And if you think I'm full of shit, ask a Saud. This headline points out a government-sanctioned action by the police in Saudi Arabia. That's some seriously screwed up shit. Did you know my mother had to wear a Burka and that she wasn't allowed, by law, to leave the house without my father lest she be kidnapped and raped by the Police? That's fucked up. India really isn't by comparison. And for those of you rating this dumb, you'll love this.
Saudi Arabia is one of approximately thirty countries in the world with judicial corporal punishment. In Saudi Arabia's case this includes amputations of hands and feet for robbery, and flogging for lesser crimes such as "sexual deviance" and drunkenness. The number of lashes is not clearly prescribed by law and is varied according to the discretion of judges, and ranges from dozens of lashes to several hundreds, usually applied over a period of weeks or months. In 2004, the United Nations Committee Against Torture criticized Saudi Arabia over the amputations and floggings it carries out under Sharia. The Saudi delegation responded defending "legal traditions" held since the inception of Islam 1,400 years ago and rejected interference in its legal system. Saudi Arabia also engages in capital punishment, including public executions by beheading.[12] The death penalty can be imposed for a wide range of offences[13] including murder, rape, armed robbery, repeated drug use, apostasy,[14] adultery,[15] witchcraft and sorcery[16] and can be carried out by beheading with a sword,[14] stoning or firing squad,[15] followed by crucifixion.[16] In 2005 there were 191 executions, in 2006 there were 38, in 2007 there were 153, and in 2008 there were 102.[17] A spokesman for the National Society for Human Rights, an organisation which is funded by the Saudi Government, said that numbers of executions are rising because crime rates are rising, that prisoners are treated humanely, and that the beheadings deter crime, saying, "Allah, our creator, knows best what's good for His people...Should we just think of and preserve the rights of the murderer and not think of the rights of others?"[18]

India really isn't.
lol sure India is a clusterfuck of fucked
India really isn't.
India, like other countries, still has a few archaic practices lingering around.
lol sure India is a clusterfuck of fucked
So is the USA. Or the UK. Or Canada. Or any country, really. India has no more than its share of problems, that, given its large population and the difficulty of maintaining a secular democratic state from a centralized government, are the logical conclusion. Not to mention the fact that it's still developing. [editline]17th April 2013[/editline]
India, like other countries, still has a few archaic practices lingering around.
Oh, aye, not denying that. It's got its problems, and the government and its people are working hard towards fixing them. Towards progress. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, is having a hard time, as the moderates there aren't the ones calling the shots. I guess I can't pass judgment on another culture, but it's not one I personally approve of.
