• Computer won't start because of overheating (I think)

I'm thinking either one of two things happened either the PSU is shot or you fried the motherboard. If you smell the infamous smell of burned electronics then it was probably a PSU failure (which is much better than a mobo burning out since it is quicker and cheaper to replace.) Either way your stuff (anything on the HDD) is safe.

Yea your HDD is probably safe. There is always the chance that when a PSU goes out it could take a few things with it. uh if you smelled burning electornics, it's not going to work What are your specs, including the PSU brand and wattage?
All good now. Just bought a new PSU. :v:
