This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918; hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice ("at the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 a.m.) I'm trying to find shops that sell poppies, but its a shame, down here, its hardly even heard of. Is it possible to make one yourself? You can always do it yourself, but it needs some effort: http://nheilke.com/blog/?p=1602 Apologies for the small content, but I will update the thread once there are pictures of the ceremonies happening. Again, I'm sorry. Cheers.
I'm selling those things on Saturday with my Squadron, the pins are evil and hate my fingers :(
We also have an Independence Day on 11.11.11 in my country, shame I'll probably spend it on Skyrim. :x

Wear a poppy!
Been wearing a poppy all week. Mucho respect for soldiers. They do a job I have great admiration for but could never do.
Bought a poppy last friday on an impulse while I was waiting for the bus. I saw some guy selling them/accepting donations outside Marks and Spencers and I figured why not.
11th is the day we celebrate the day that the bermontian forces left our country after we fought them to the last. ( I am going on a torch march with my friends and town folk )
On 11th I will celebrate the launch of Skyrim.
It's also my birthday, but I've never worn a poppy before. I've always had a lot of respect for soldiers and veterans, and I'll probably try to buy one.
As usual, I've left the poppy-buying til the last minute since I'm usually indoors.
It's not called Veteran's Day in the commonwealth. Also Veteran's is a a whole day thing and everyone get's the day off. Remembrance Day is just a silence for those that died in WW1->Present (Mainly the World Wars really) and the main event is on the next sunday.

My ROTC company is traveling downtown to march in my towns veterans day parade.
Going to a parade on Friday. Great that we still honor those who fought for freedom.
My daddies a veteran :3
My dad is a veteran! Spent a long 22 (maybe 23?) years serving our country protecting our freedom! Proud that he is too :3 On a other note, I get to march with my MCJROTC platoon in a veterans day parade tomorrow. (It's a highschool class btw)
I'm a pacifist to the core, and a long time ago I used to feel only disgust for soldiers. Nowadays though, I know that even though our soldiers, right now, are fighting for the wrong cause, it's not their fault. It's the people who order them into the slaughtering fields. Every good willed soldier, however, is a hero. I find myself constantly helping veterans however I can, from carrying all their groceries to placing flowers on every veteran's gravestone around this time of year. I wouldn't dare call myself a patriot, or proud of this country, but these guys volunteered to die for their country, even if their country wouldn't die for them. Very few men are capable of such a feat.
Got myself a poppy flower. Also visited the cenotaph. AND FUCKING TEENAGERS WERE SITTING ON THE STEPS DRINKING ALCOHOL.
Lest we forget who fought for all of us.
i really hate trying to get poppys on, i spent 20 minutes of class trying to pin it to my blazer and ended up ripping the pocket and my thumb then it fell off in the hallway and was lost forever
My school just dedicated our new monument to Canadian veterans. Long ceremony in the cold, but it was nice. We also got our first snowfall of the year during the ceremony, it was kind of surreal.
A friend of mine who takes media studies told me that some disrespectful cunt played a trailer for something during the 2 minute silence.
My grandfather is a veteran of the Vietnam War
Our battalion has a large service on Sunday and of course we had our 2 minute silence. It's a sad day but also a proud day when you're in uniform.
Remembrance Day? Here we don't even remember what war is :v:
Recording as many war movies and shows as I can on DirecTV. Were Were Soldiers, Apocalypse Now, WWII in HD, Vietnam in HD, etc...
Just got done marching in my towns parade with my JROTC platoon. They had flyovers form KC-135's and Hueys and stuff. Then we got back and had some Marine Corps cake to celebrate their birthday.
Appropriate music (Posted on another Remembrance Day thread)
No waves of grain would claim the fallen Just the channel cold and grey as steel And no return to the rolling prairie And a silent cross on a lonely field
