• How the hell do you keep calm when doing something that strains your nerves to the max?

I'm doing my driving test for the 3rd time on Wednesday. I failed the first two times not because I'm a bad driver but because my IBS and nerves fucked me up, I was shaking through the whole thing and left with nothing but a "Fuck it" mood to leave me sour. Driving tests, school exams, seeing significant others or dates, anything like that fucks me up. If you have IBS you know exactly what I mean. (I don't shit on people if they make me nervous, just want to clarify that. :3:) If you guys have any ways of staying calm/focused to share, please do. I can't bear to think about failing again, can't ignore the possibility of win/lose. /old UPDATE, I PASSED MOTHERFUCKERS! 6 minors and I'm quite chuffed. I would like to thank everyone who posted in this thread for helpful and downright silly advice, I didn't take all of it but thinking positive and deep breathing got me through. <3
Son, we call it valium.
smoke weed
Actually, Valium might totally be a viable option, you should talk to your doctor about looking into some mild sedatives. *edit* AND BY SEDATIVE I DON'T MEAN WEED.
MisterM. I know what it feels. Your best way to remain calm is to practice. Play a driving game with a steering wheel. Practice parking, turning, and all of those other important steps. But whatever you do, don't realize this isn't a simulator anymore when you're behind the wheel on a bridge, and freak out and nearly go over the edge trying to avoid the cars to your left... like I did. :P
Son, we call it valium.
I have this to get me through, my instructor says a girl took half a bottle of Rescue Remedy and she was still during it when she would normally be shaking. The chemist gave me a pill last time, but it didn't do shit for me.
smoke weed
I wish man, I wish!
MisterM. I know what it feels. Your best way to remain calm is to practice. Play a driving game with a steering wheel. D: My instructor says my driving is great, can do every maneuver and I feel confident doing so, exam conditions however are the bane of my shitty existence.
Don't think about it, thinking results in failure for most of this kind of stuff. Racing drivers never think during the first few laps, as thinking about will result in over-breaking or putting the power down too early. But for a completely serious answer, drink, drink loads. Everyone knows Alcohol solves most of life's issues.
Zone out and chill, because eventually you realize this crap doesn't matter in five years.
Simple. You ask yourself one question: What would Batman do?
Have sex with them. In the ass.

ah man, look back at my thread, it's a bit long but basically rescue remedy and kalms and you'll ace it mate! 3rd time lucky!
Don't go straight to pills. Learn meditation and deep breathing techniques.
valium kills
I heard alcohol can make you feel better :smug: Either that or driving with the family, for a more relaxed environment as apposed to the instructors "STOP, GO, INDICATE, CHECK MIRRORS"..
Ask the instructor to give orders with a more relaxed voice, like a GPS voice does. That way, you'll forget that you're taking an exam.
Don't go straight to pills. Learn meditation and deep breathing techniques.
Got any links? I went to a therapy for my IBS once to get back into school and I manged okay till recently, everyday is tiring and painful with working harder to achieve average/below-average results I struggle to see the point. SAKE. EDIT:
Ask the instructor to give orders with a more relaxed voice, like a GPS voice does. Sounds to me like you're overreacting due to adrenaline. Try practicing in those situations beforehand to relax yourself and know what to prepare for.
It sucks that you can't do a relaxed posture when driving. Two hands on the wheel is not as comfortable as 1
Son, we call it valium.
Bad idea for anything like a driving test, causes drowsiness and can be dangerous. Was given some a year ago when I was having a really stressful time with exams and other stuff and it is great for calming down to sleep but you can't function after taking it. Cyanide cures all.
cyanide DOES not kills
Sounds to me like you're overreacting due to adrenaline. When I get IBS before something big, it leaves me in a tired negative mood and I just want to nap. Everyday from school I come home and nap, anywhere from 2 hours till the whole evening and night. Do I feel great waking up? not at all, just tired knowing I'm going through it all again in another day. I've practiced heavily in the lead up and I can do everything I'd be asked to in the exam perfectly but I feel pretty good and relaxed. I can tell you for a fact that I'll feel terrible during the exam.
It sucks that you can't do a relaxed posture when driving. Basically just chill out. Go jerk off or something before and just have the mindset that your gona do it and who gives a fuck if I don't pass. For me things go smoother with that mindset.
Basically just chill out. Go jerk off or something before and just have the mindset that your gona do it and who gives a fuck if I don't pass. For me things go smoother with that mindset.
but the cars is going to be sticky

I will do it because I give a fuck about it, I don't pride myself on what others think.
Emotions are energy that desire to flow freely from your inner part to express themselves via the given tools, mkay. So just let out the biggest and most badass warcry when leaving home, or do some sort of sport or just about anything that allows your feelings to properly get outta you.

I like being loud, so I have no problem with a warcry or two. Noted!
Stop thinking. You can do it.
Personally, I got through my test by thinking I'd failed right at the start. I then wasn't bothered about the little things and calmed down. I'd actually passed.
