Does anyone know about what year they will be released?
I've never owned a console, I'm a PC gamer. But recently I'm looking into buying one.
I think I want a PS3 more than A Xbox 360.
But is there any point in me going to buy one if there is going to be a new one next year or the year after.
If it's within 3 years then I will stick to my PC and wait for that. But if it's longer than that, then I might consider purchasing a PS3/xbox now.
I think consoles are getting a renewal in 2012
I doubt an "Xbox 720" will ever be released, it'll be named something else.
But a PS4? probably around 2012/2014
The current gen consoles are still getting upgrades, so we won't see another generation for a while yet.
They don't really have motivation to release a new generation until technology improves more, because the graphics wouldn't have a noticeable enough leap, at least not as much as there was between last gen and this. Plus the install base on the current consoles is huge.
I seem to remember Sony saying they wanted the PS3 to last 2 generations, or at least 1.5, I think.

10 years is all i remember.
I thought you were trolling, but most likely a third generation xBox will come out first

You're thinking of the life span of the PS2
I'm waiting to see how Sony's Wiimote rip-off plays out. I hope Nintendo patented that shit so they can sue the fuck out of Sony. :q:
Also, I want a Zii, the next-gen Nintendo console. SOURCE

I'm sure that's how long Sony said they wanted the PS3 to last.
Todays consoles are enough to, i mean they run 720p fine most lcd tvs won't do much better.
The Wii is still stuck on 480i composite cables, 480p with component cables.
Most people I know who buy and own LCD TVs have 1080p, and 720p picture looks like shit stretched to fit a 1080p television. The next-gen consoles should support 1080p in ALL games, while keeping 720p for compatibility's sake. I bet Nintendo's next console will only sport 720p, given their track record for recycling ancient hardware.
I don't think there's a need for another gen console for some time. Maybe Nintendo could do something but the X360 and PS3 are good enough to last for a long time.
We need a new sony handheld to cover up the shit that is PSP Go.
Microsoft is proposing a new 360 with upgraded hardware for the release of "Project Natal"
It will apparently be able to run games faster... and the old consoles will still be able to run the new games.

both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will have 10 year life spans. no idea what Nintedo is up to, probably making some new DS because they haven't made enough versions already :downs:
Traditionally, most console generations lasts for about 8 years. However, due to the superior hardware in the 7th Generation, expect the generation to last for a few years longer than the older generations.
Nooo, not a new xbox :sigh:

Hopefully they're smart enough to put the thumbstick on the other side this time, so we can actually play FPS games without crippling our hands. And L2 and R2 buttons, playing PS1 games gets annoying sometimes.
Yeah, but we really don't need updates to current consoles/handhelds, besides the stuff that's from Nintendo. Hardware is so old it's not even funny.

They're gonna squeeze every drop of money out of the current generation of consoles, so the'll be aeound for quite a while yet.
Do you know how depressing it would be if pc gamers stayed with the same computer for 8 years.

It's not quite the same

Your point being? I cant really remember how old mine is, maybe 4 years, but I dont see myself buying a new one for quite some time, you are saying that I should feel depressed right now?

We won't live anymore then :ninja:
Think it would be named Xbox 3 to be honest.
Eh, 10 years, 8 years? Didn't we go through three generations in that time?

If you play games on your 4 years is old but what I mean if I went 8 years with out upgrading something or getting a new computer for gaming it would be sad.
