Prison Architect will launch proper in 2015, developer Introversion has promised.
Prison Architect is currently in alpha and available on Steam as an Early Access title.
The news comes as the game passes 1m copies sold. As of 29th January, Prison Architect had sold 1,066,233 copies.
A mobile version of Prison Architect is in development, Introversion added.
Shame everyone interested already bought it haha.
remember when alpha/beta actually meant something
While I don't really have much interest in Prison Architect, it's pretty great to see Introversion still kicking about after their financial troubles a few years ago.
Guys try to find my character/prisoner in the game.
And do horrible things to me.
There's still in my opinion way too much bugs like for example when prisoners escape, and they get shot or detained on time, guards won't drag them back in doors and will simply wait for them to either wake up or their detainment to be over
After that, they escape

Wait... What? I wasn't aware Introversion made this. I remember buying the source code to Darwinia/Multiwinia/Defcon/Uplink because they were going broke. Glad to see they survived.
To elaborate for the people who haven't watched the video (Eurogamer included!), they're committing to leaving alpha sometime this year. They're not saying when, but they will say that monthly updates will continue as ever.
As for the mobile comment, they're going to spend most of next month trying to squeeze the game onto iPad and Android to see how it handles with a touch interface.
They've also sent feelers out re: a console and boxed retail release, but that all depends on whether anyone bites (and whether they can get over the trauma of Darwinia+'s horrendous dev cycle...)

Damn shame about Subversion though. It's literally the game I've always wanted. Procedural generated cities with procedural generated buildings all of which are enter-able, and the reason you want to enter them is to pull off motherfucking heists.
It's a great game, although i think it could do with a bit more content before launch; there's some unused things in the files that would be good.
This game is really fun and one of the best examples to come out of early access. Happy to hear it will get a release this year.

There is a lot of complicated algorithms working mostly seemlessly in the game, my only problem is its hard to tell when your prison legitimetly sucks through bad design or when a bug is preventing your kitchens from making food
Its funny, Prison Architect was kinda one of those first big titles that helped kick off the Early Access craze we're in now. Everyone wanted access to Prison Architect, everyone wanted a founders pack of some kind.
Seems a non-usual example of the Early Access trend, I guess.
I think its pretty disgusting how some companies abuse the tagline to never, or spend a ridiculously long time before they release a game in the expected or completed state but still charge full price, or in some places DOUBLE the RRP with the excuse that its an earlier version, but not that it matters since it'll be very similar to the beta that is RRP, and when you do break down what has been added by the "final" version, you'll notice there's surprisingly little. Just look at Planetary Annihilation for reference.
There isn't a genuine excuse for the price gouging behaviour, its just a low way of whoring money out of desperate people.
Prison Architect is an Early Access success. Good on them.
have they fixed the massive lag issues after having your prison open for many hours?
I pretty much stopped playing due to the FPS drop
Great news. Best prisoner I got was this guy.
remember when alpha/beta actually meant something
They still mean something, it's just no longer closed and limited to a small pool of QA testers within the company. Alpha is implementation of features, Beta is bug squashing.
Hopefully once these guys release this, they can make a remake of Darwinia or Multiwinia, or maybe a sequel of those games, played the shit out of them when they came out.
This will be the first Alpha/Beta game that I have ever bought to see released. So excited.
I stopped playing the game like 6 months ago and from what i've seen they've added a lot of shit. A really fun game, though. Fun making a high-sec murderprison.
The metal detectors still don't even have proper sprites??
I'm happy for them since I had so much fun with the game but I can't help it but not care about this since I already lost the appeal after playing it so much.
The metal detectors still don't even have proper sprites??
To be fair, launching in 2015 gives them another 11 months to finish it.
The metal detectors still don't even have proper sprites??
Sprites could be the last thing on their list. Which would make sense, since making them all at once would make it much easier to keep them consistent with each other, then trying to maintain the same style over years of development.

What is an Alpha???
What is an Alpha???
You just reminded me, this is one of the only early access games too get the alpha/beta thing correct.
The metal detectors still don't even have proper sprites??
Wait, they don't? They always seemed fine to me. Unless I'm missing something.
Now please work on subversion
